With our Deep Freeze in the Rear View, and a little rain to loosen things up, Bulbs are starting rear their welcome heads; 23 days later than last year.

Yesterday tied the record 66°F/18.9°C; it fell back to 48°F/8.9°C today but tomorrow'll warm right back up.

Speaking of tomorrow, I set out/filled most of the Bird Baths today, and the Feathered Friends are frolicking like there ain't gonna be one...

Against all odds (unforgiving, shaded, north-facing, recently frozen raised beds), the ever-tough-as-nails Ligularia Dentata, makes its 2025 appearance:

Tulips huddle for warmth as winter won't leave go:

But that doesn't stop Mini-Pineapples, AKA Hyacinths, from forming:

Does Pyramid deliver that chicken pizza? And if so, is it still hot when it gets there?

I am south of you, I cannot recall if it is late. Tulip greens are just above the soil now. The weather seems to be odd this year.

Well I'm not too far from @Cornelius_Gotchberg. He 's just down the road a bit but I don't have a single flower in bloom yet. I was in the flower garden today pulling some grass out that keeps spreading around in there and I did come across some crocus that were just starting to break the soil. I have no signs of squill but daffodils are breaking ground and the allium are jumping out.

For those keeping score at home, the divine @MissS is @43.0324° N and 67.2 m/108.15kms due east of The Gotch (@43.43.0512° N), which is ding nigh straight line.

The pics are of a south facing bed near the house; other than that, the difference is a head scratcher, to be sure.

Glass half full?

The days are getting longer...in both locations, and each have beau coup rainfall in the forecast!

Not the 1st, and certainly not the last:
thumbnail_IMG_3680.jpg
Best news I've gotten yet this early Spring: the magnificent Fern Leaf Peony (bequeathed by the divine @MissS in May 2023) which I thought had died; GREAT NEWS that the rumors of its death had been greatly exaggerated!
thumbnail_IMG_3681.jpg
And the Hyacinths have burst open; 76°F/24.4°C & balmy'll do that!

@Cornelius_Gotchberg what made you think that it died?

It went to Dry Sticks in the late Summer, well before everything else.

I can't tell you's how many times I looked at it (when it wasn't covered by snow) and hoped my worst fears wouldn't be confirmed.

p. tentiflora (fern-leafed peony) goes dormant early. Usually around the end of July. I just put a pot of flowers on it to cover the bare spot in my garden.
