The First Scent Of Spring
Yesterday afternoon I went out back for something and caught a whiff of a very sweet scent in the air. Hmmm, I wonder if the Winter Daphne is blooming. It's about that time. Sure enough! Little 1" blooms all over it. Such a sweet scent, reassuring me that spring isn't far away.

I can’t feel my feet currently but am excited for what’s to come. The sooner the better imo. Pretty flowers!

Please put some of that scent in a baggie and send it to me. It's only 3 degrees and not a tweet to hear or a scent to be sniffed. Spring needs to move a little faster.

In these here parts, the only "scent" is when I'm emptying the compost. And no feathered friends in yer neighborhood? The Cardinals are singing up a storm with an occasional squawking Crow just before daybreak when I head out to fetch the paper; that there free concert takes one's mind off'n the bone-jarring cold.

Re: The First Scent Of Spring
Oh yeah, they're here! There was a big flock of robins behind the house yesterday. The cardinals are chippin' and the bluejays are always fussing with each other with some kind of territorial squawking up in the trees. It's either that or a giant family reunion! Last weekend there was a pair of red tail hawks wheeling around over the pasture and "keeeeeeeer"ing to each other. The mourning doves are here but it's too early for them to be chattin'. I can't wait until the mockingbirds start singing. They're here too but it's not mating season yet. That's when they sound their best.Cornelius_Gotchberg wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 11:52 am

Methinks they never left...
Anywho, the feathered friends comment was directed toward the Divine @MissS, whose digs are ~ the same latitude (43° 3' 14" N.) as me @ 43°04′00.00″ N, and which is currently colder'n a Well-Digger's/Witch's...welp...you's get the picture; the kinda frozen atmosphere that sucks the air right outta yer lungs.

And we are experiencing record low temps for the day’s highs…if you get what I mean..4 degrees for the high tomorrow, a record low high. And then a possible high high on Saturday. Spring just around the corner? I think not.

We do have some robins year round, just not big flocks. Those are usually seen only in the spring.

Nope there was not a tweet here yesterday. It was 0 degrees. There have been some nice birds singing recently but not when we are in the deep freeze. It's -7 right now and not a peep to be heard. Not even the dog wants to go out and she has a nice thick coat and likes to sleep in the snow.Cornelius_Gotchberg wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 11:52 amIn these here parts, the only "scent" is when I'm emptying the compost. Interesting; there was a gosh darn cacophony @06:15 this a.m., taking my mind off'n the cold (mercifully not accompanied by any wind) which smacked me in the face like a ton-a-bricks.MissS wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2025 7:55 amNope there was not a tweet here yesterday. @Cornelius_Gotchberg It's warming up nicely here. It's now only -4 degrees out there. Whatcha doing out there at 6:15am singing with the birds? I know, I know poor Mrs. Gotch can't stand your singing while she's trying to sleep.

The lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch used to wish SHE could sing...now she wishes HER HUSBAND could...
