Hello to all users

I am from Turkey. Just wanted to say hi to all members since I have been reading your posts and experiences a lot. Becoming a member now, I won't be able to contribute much to this wonderful information forum, since this is my only second year growing tomatoes at my balcony (zone 7b) As a silent member, I will eagerly follow your great posts.
Wishing the best seasons to all from Turkey :)

Welcome! :) Please feel free to ask a question if you have any problems with your tomatoes. Lots of growers in similar zones here, and even some balcony growers too. We all have tomato troubles from time to time, so it helps to share our experiences.

Hello and welcome @Naive Green. I'm so glad that you finally have joined us. We have a few balcony gardeners here as well as lots of those that grow in containers. They all will be very happy to help you if you have any questions or problems.

Welcome to the forum, @Naive Green! I'm a patio container grower. Next year will be my 3rd season. I've learned a lot from two seasons as well as from this forum. So will you. :)

Thank you to all of you for the very warm welcome. Definitely, I will learn lots of precious information here. Until now, I have read a couple of documents regarding seedlings, seed saving, insects and growing. Some were experiences and some were a bit formal. I think all these, along with this great forum will make more sense along with the application in the next seasons.

When do you plant, in Turkey?
I have read some interesting research on tomatoes that was done by scientists in Turkey. So I know tomatoes are an important crop there, and also quite a few years ago I was gifted some seed from USDA gene bank, of a very cold tolerant tomato originally from Turkey! From the mountains I guess. Quite a nice tomato and tolerated the cold spring here really well too.
Well regardless of when you begin, I do wish you an excellent season coming up in 2025. :)

Dear bower
I tried to check our tomatoes which are widely known abroad. Very roughly guessing, the tomato that was given as a present to you, might be Alakır Etlisi. Especially if it is big, meaty and of red color, the probability increases. It was born in West Highlands.

Well, the time of planting out varies a lot from seaside to continent. I always try to make an appropate scale while reading your posts.North is very rainy and very humid in the summers but as you move south, there's this southern Mediterranean climate.I would guess like maybe coastal Georgia state ( just looking at u.s map) but that is a very very rough guess. They seed earlier and plant out earlier. Our city Ankara, is continental and mid April is generally when plants are finally put out.
