Been awhile
Hi, I've been a sleeping member for a bit. I'm from Kentucky . My grandfather was a tomato farmer and I loved planting, eating and canning the tomatoes with him. He has long passed away, but I still think of him every May when we put our tomatoes in the ground.

@missyky88 I am also from Kentucky, down by Kentucky Lake. My grandparents were also tomato farmers, 16 acres, and I have hoed every inch of it, more than once. Their operation would be kind of like a co-op now.
You will love it here. @MissS has the answer to any question you may have. Welcome to the Junction.

Much like you, I think of a tomato grower from Kentucky, as Louisville was his home. He was the first one to send me a good portion of his collection. One variety, Kentucky Cabin, produced an off-type, so the selection from it was named for him, Cabin Fever. Every spring, just before starting seedlings, I think of him, and his generosity toward me.
His name was Gary, same as mine. Once, in a small completely unplanned trade, a woman (who's name that I forgot) organized this trade. When she received all of our seeds, the participants were 4 Garys and her. Somehow, I've remembered the first names of us other 4, but not her.

You can't argue with a closed mind.
You might as well be arguing with a cat.

Re: Been awhile
Welcome from another central Texan! I was born in KY, close to Lexington but have been in TX most of my life. Kentucky - such beautiful country. Got lots of relatives still in the area. Grandparents were gardeners way up into their 80s. I'm (mostly) a newbie to tomatoes and am thankful for finding this group of obsessed people.
