Little Black Bugs (soil)
Sorry I have no pictures. Long story short, I noticed a bunch of little black bugs swarming all over the potting mix at the base of my midget melon seedlings. First I thought they were fungus gnats, but they didn't fly, then pavement ants that had made a home there, but on closer inspection they were not, they were more...well, they weren't like ants. They were fast, and seemed to have a white dot on their back, and their tail end seemed tapered to a point. I would have posted a picture but they were fast, they were small, they wanted to stay under the dirt when I pulled some out, and they were soft so if I killed one there wasn't really anything left for a picture.
I sprayed some Neem and insecticidal soap on them which didn't seem to slow them down, so I got impatient and hit them with some Temprid. That took care of them but it seems like I should try and find out what they were. Any ideas?

No idea, but I bet they were up to no good.
