Star rating system

Post: # 618Unread post Sue_CT

Can anyone tell me what the stars are under each persons name? Is it how many thumbs up "likes" or "thanks" you get, or related to how many posts you make? Mine actually went down, from 20% to 7.5%, lol. I saw one that already has 60%. Just curious. It seems kind of off putting when you are being rated by other people and it is that low, lol.

It should be the number of likes vs the number of posts.

Ahhhh, OK, thank you. I will have to lobby for a few likes, lol. Or post less. Or both.

In a way it kinda lets you know if you're posts are valuable or just posting to post. I wouldn't worry about it, the main reason it's there is to let people know you saw it and liked it.

I wish that we could select "like" instead of "thanks". Everyone is familiar with likes but thanks seems a bit strange to me.

And sadly I don't think that the "thanks" do not show up on the particular post so that others can see that it was liked. It just seems to show a total of "thanks" under the avatar.

I don't know why there's no LIKE option, I know many forums use this Thank system so there must be a reason. I'll keep looking for plug-ins to make the site better. Technology never stops!!!!

Hey SueCT and brownrexx, I'm glad to see you both!! :) I thought the stars are rating the post, not the person? It's confusing enough to me that I'm just ignoring it, but now that I read this, throwing each of you some likes!! :D

Yup, I'm looking at it now, and those stars are likes for the post. So I guess if someone is really in a hurry to find which posts people liked the most in a thread, they could scroll down looking for stars. But to me, you are the stars!! :D Like, like, and thanks!!! :P ;)

OK, Ya'll confused me too and I was wrong. I searched and found all the info you need, hopefully!!

Rating is built on a number of thanks for the posts. For 100% rating is the highest number of thanks for post (leader). Rating the remaining posts is defined as a percentage of the ranking leader.
For example, the maximum number of thanks for post #1 = 10. This is 100%. Then post #2 with 5 thanks will have a rating of 50% (10/5). Post #3 with 3 thanks will have a rating of 33,3% (10/3), etc.
If the post #1 will receive another thanks (10 +1 = 11), his rating will remain 100% (as leader). Rating post #2 is 45.5% (11/5), rating post #3 is 27.3% (11/3).

Not sure I like the competition aspects of this, but that might be because I am losing the race big time, lol!

Just my opinion but the rating system seems like clutter and I would turn it off.

I agree with Bower, it's rather meaningless clutter to me. A Thanks is not the same as a Like. And I'm confused, can you thank the same post over & over just for the heck of it??
How about just showing how many posts you made?

No, if you try to thank or like a post again it will unlike it.
Just like on YouTube when you like a video or comment.

OK, I found a true "Like" button and it looks like it will be less intrusive to the post. Standby as I delete the Thanks and install the like!!!!

Yeah! It looks way better without the stars and ratings clutter. And I really don't like any system that makes some people feel underrated, which is surely undeserved. We're better off without.

I did find a true Like button but can't get it to install right. I'll keep trying, this is a simple Like without a rating. Give me some time.
