God I miss lilacs. We had a huge 100 year old lilac near our front yard where we parked our tractors. The whole yard smelled wonderful.

Lilacs do not grow where I live.

The lilacs are currently in bloom, here. I have to cut some for the neighbors.

Meanwhile, another neighbor's prized tree lilacs have taken some real bad damage over the winter. I've got to crawl in there, and cut out the broken areas, very soon. She's not going to like it, but perhaps if I tell her to get a few vases ready, it'll be less painful.

In summer while my mother was at work, her three little girls pulled the bristles out of her broom to thread lilac blossoms on. With few bristles left it became the garage broom.

The lilacs are great with their splendid fragrance, but I was always impressed with the massive blue hydrangea blooms that thrived in the cooling mists and fogs of Chatham, MA.

Our Magnolia Grandiflora trees are in bloom here now and I plan on bringing in a couple of those elegant and wonderfully lemon scented blooms indoors for mother’s day tomorrow.

The blue blooms are due to the acidic New England soil. Alkaline soils will produce pink blooms. My neighbor's hydrangea is often in-between. I think they limed the area several years ago.

I have a small hydrangea in the yard that was gifted to me several years ago. It dies back every fall, and comes back every spring. It's never gotten more than about 16" tall, although this year it looks to be growing faster than previous years. It may be a type that is not suited to my winter climate.

Yeah; not only are we in the same Hardiness Zone, but pert near the same latitude, to boot.

Things are a little behind schedule here, though not as late as last year when I didn't cut the 1st Peony 'til May 31st.

Speaking of Peonies, they're getting ready to pop; we're looking forward to their fragrance filling the house and yard.
