The greenhouse tomatoes are running!!
I'm trying some new hydro nutrients added to the Masterblend this year to try to improve production. It's looking good so far but I have a few more additions coming. The true test will be later this summer.

I've been using one of those silica additives (the one I use is a powder, you mix with water to make a qt of the additive, but the same thing in the end), ever since I discovered it, for hydroponics. I now use it for watering my all of seedlings - only a half tsp or so added to every gallon of water. It helps strengthen their stalks, and I don't even have to stake my tomatillo seedlings - something that used to be notorious for having weak stalks. Works great!

Wow, you sure are getting some amazing results with the Silica Blast. I can't believe the change in the stems once you started to use it. It looks like I might have to give it a try myself. There goes the pocketbook.
BTW, I like that catchy tune playing in the background. It reminds me of something...

@Rajun Gardener after seeing your results with the Silica Blast, I bought some last year for my seedlings this year. I used it and I must say that I am so impressed with how thick and sturdy the stems are on my seedlings this year that I will be adding this to my regime every year. Thank you so much for introducing me to this product!

I'm glad it worked for you. It's amazing that the more you think you know about growing, someone or a company comes up with another way to do it better.
How soon did you start feeding the seedlings with it?

I have a gallon of Dyna Gro Pro-Tekt sitting on a shelf. Something convinced me to purchase it several years ago but I haven't used it yet. I have about a dozen seedlings I started for a summer planting. This thread has inspired me to give it a try.

Pro-TeKt® 0-0-3, The Silicon Solution® is a supplement that supplies silicon and higher levels of potassium to build stronger plant cell walls.
Since silicon does not trans-locate within the plant, it must be applied and made available continually throughout the plant’s life cycle.
In hydroponics, Pro-TeKt is a replacement for the silica normally found in soils, though those natural levels provide only slight benefits to plants.
Plants supplied regularly with Pro-TeKt experience increased rates of growth and stronger stems.
Deposited in a hard, opalene form in the epidermis of leaves and stems, silicon adds mechanical strength and supports plants’ natural defenses against insects and fungal infection.
Plants become more tolerant to drought, heat, and cold stresses, and will support the weight of dense, heavy buds.
Pro-TeKt can be used as a surfactant and to raise pH. Pro-TeKt® The Silicon Solution® is recommended for all plants.

Re: The greenhouse tomatoes are running!!
I started when most of them had their first true leaf. This is the sturdiest batch of seedlings I have had in a very long time.Rajun Gardener wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 4:40 pmMissS wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 8:19 am @Rajun Gardener after seeing your results with the Silica Blast, I bought some last year for my seedlings this year.
