Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Got a couple of very large Cottonwood trees in the neighbourhood. One has an eagle nest in it and so, both trees are in a small protected area. Eagle trees are not allowed to be cut here. The smell of their buds in spring is wonderful, the source of Balm of Gilead.

The cottonwood buds contain the sticky resin that is responsible for the healing properties of Balm of Gilead.

Spent a bunch of time helping the bro keep his ducks in a row
The kept waddling towards the road. But there is a pic of the other Mother Duck (
) and a horrible pic of both mama ducks and their little flocks.

Sorry one last picture. The bro also has a bunch of geese. Yes he "has" those Canadian Geese also. They would fly, in have babies and fly out . . . BUT . . . they found the feed for the bro's ducks and geese and have called it home. This pic is just a part of his pond and flock of geese/ducks.

We had our first snowfall yesterday. It is mostly all melted and supposed to be in the 60's tomorrow. But I loved it while it was here!!

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Yeah the 'atmospheric rivers' are pounding both coasts! Thankfully my area is getting no more than 15 mm of rain this time and some days of showers, drizzle and fog. We may have some supply chain issues with the roads that are out, but only a matter of 3 days estimated. So glad the directly affected here haven't so far been driven from their homes nor anyone caught in slides or road failures and so on. The scenes from the west coast are really tragic! I hope they can fix what is broken sooner than hoped. You deserve a kindly break in the weather, I hope you get it!

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
I just found out about a small town about 90 miles west from me that has quite a Christmas tradition. On the day after Thanksgiving they have a community celebration regarding lighting up "Christmas Mountain", usually known as Tenderfoot Mountain with over 4500 LED lights outlining a 750 foot tall Christmas tree. I saw the photo below on a local news program and am intrigued enough to put a visit there on my bucket list. The link below is from last years celebration, but Covid restrictions were eased this year, so fireworks were allowed again.

And here is a picture of Tenderfoot Mountain during the summer...

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Here's another one that was shown tonight on the local news...Prairie Dog Ninja...taken outside of Longmont, Colorado, north of Denver. Reminded me of a poster I saw years ago, titled "Last Great Act of Defiance", showing a mouse flipping off a hawk just before being pounced on.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Last night temperature dipped below -20°C, so it was perfect for making ice lanterns. I filled a plastic bowl with water and put a tumbler filled with pebbles inside it and left it outside overnight. Today I removed the containers and put a tealight in the cavity.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
I went grocery shopping quite late last night. When coming out from the store I could just admire the line of frosted lindens against the dark sky. The parking lot lights made the lindens shine like white lace. Picture quality is not best possible, because I could not hold my phone steady, but the scenery was too pretty not to be shared. It feels nice to find some beauty in unexpected places.
