Most of them, yes. I still have a handwritten list and letter that I can refer back to written in Russian. I also found the Belarus State Register online which lists many Soviet-era cultivars, but would like to find a more detailed reference of old Soviet varieties.Andrey wrote: ↑Tue Mar 30, 2021 12:10 am Great. Do you know variety names of these two Soviet tomatoes?![]()
OhioGardener wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 4:05 pm Здравствуйте from Ohio, USA! I've not met you before, but would enjoy corresponding with you about old Soviet tomatoes. I have several in my collection that I've been growing since 1991 and 1993, including two that were given to me by a Biologist from Minsk. I'm in the process of possibly donating these to SSE's seedbank and just finished writing the seed story for them.
In addition to the tomatoes, I also have a Soviet cucumber, pumpkin and zucchini. It's interesting that Russian seed catalogs now list the cucumber variety as a hybrid, but my version is not and I know that my friend's mom had grown it at their dacha near Moscow at least as far back as the 1980's, possibly longer. Her pumpkin also matches the Belorussian state register for C. pepo species and a photo in a 1988 Soviet children's book, but current Russian vendors appear to be selling a C. maxima using the same name. It appears that I may have the correct historic variety which I discovered when trying to research the variety online. I'll send you a private message.

Both are wonderful varieties, they do very well in South Florida. My season is mediocre this year, weather has been conducive to a lot of Tomato Russet Mites. But still it goes on. Thank you for asking.☺Andrey wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 12:31 amHi dear Marsha.
