Re: Hello from Colombia! Growing in the tropics
Living near the equator, or at least within the tropics, at a relatively high altitude like 7,000 asl, must be paradise. About anything desired can be grown I would think, except perhaps the heat loving plants.
Are you too high for coffee? Does citrus work there? Is there a rainy or dry season?

AH! A Ramblin' Wrecker and one of those "house divided" situations! Aw, it's all in good fun, especially during football season.

@AdrianaG What is your humidity like up there?

Welcome to TJ, @AdrianaG, from central Texas just outside of Austin. Homegrown tomatoes year-round?! I can't imagine that! Look forward to your glog.
I'm growing a few dwarfs for the first time: Dwarf Eagle Smiley, Dwarf Sweet Sue, Maralinga and New Big Dwarf. Also have a few heirlooms and a couple of hybrid cherries.

I have not measured it but due to our elevation it is neither high nor low, certainly nowhere near the humidity in DC, Georgia or Alabama in summer.

I assume in Texas your tomato constraint is no fruit set after temps exceed 85°? I lived in Sarasota Fl for 5 years after mid-June we had no more fruit set until fall.TX-TomatoBug wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 4:41 pm

We are in a good range for coffee and citrus. I haven’t gotten around to planting any coffee but it on my radar, the bushes are really pretty, but harvesting and processing is a hassle.karstopography wrote: ↑Sun Mar 23, 2025 6:52 pm

Colombian coffee just spoiled me for other kinds. Tinto doble en posillo grande... perfect
I remember lemon trees growing wild en el monte. Just a beautiful wild tree. That would have been fairly high elevation, perhaps similar to yours.

Correct, little fruit set when temps heat up. But same as Sarasota, it will resume in the fall as long as they survive the hot summer and disease.AdrianaG wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:19 pmI assume in Texas your tomato constraint is no fruit set after temps exceed 85°?
