@MalachiteJen Welcome to the forum, your elevation is very similar to mine(4600'). This area of southern Colorado has a high desert climate with an average precipitation of about 12 inches(if we are lucky).
It's not what you gather, but what you scatter, that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Welcome! I'm also in America's Dairyland currently, but I grew up in the High Desert. Barstow, CA specifically. I don't recall too many veggie gardens there, mostly cacti and rock gardens. I've been to Nevada, and more than just Las Vegas. My family at that time went to see Scotty's Castle one day, which was very cool. Literally. The feature I best remember is their version of central AC, which revolved around a waterfall feature inside of the main house. For anyone who's curious:
