July 22nd Is International BLT Day!

The lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch's BLT, on this, its hallowed day, with what was salvaged from a pest-nibbled King Kong (seed from the inimitable @MissS, and with a 1st attempt Bacon Weave (H/T @Tormato).

@Cornelius_Gotchberg I just distributed the King Kong seeds. They were donated by @Yak54. They were from his monster tomato that he grew last year. Thanks again Yak54 for your generous contribution to the competition!

I bought lettuce some Roma tomatoes and a fresh loaf of bread.
But pichania for breakfast got in the way and I had spaghetti and meat sauce for supper.

All that was left of a pest-ravaged King Kong I'd been eyin' up, fortunately it supplied sufficient T for our International BLT Day samitches!

Well like I said before it's on Sunday.
Cooking bacon under the dome in the Big 12 Inch.
I certainly apologize for not using a 300 dollar skillet and using a Lodge 20 dollar skillet.
I'm sure it'll ruin the bacon.

Well besides not having lettuce (and the vole is back, chowing down the little ones I planted out yesterday) I checked my freezer bacon and discovered.... MAPLE flavored bacon. Dear heavens above. I know I bought it on special and I guess didn't read the fine print.
Obviously there's some kind of pancake breakfast in my future for that.
So I must secure me some ordinary bacon to serve the obvious purpose.
Not the first time I've missed the international day of... I can hardly manage people's birthday's without being late, so I'm all good.
However, this tomato is a waiting for a special purpose and I think I might just have to eat it.

Maple flavored bacon, yes clearance time bacon, we made that mistake once. Even the saved bacon grease was just wrong...made me want boycott Vermont.

With a large selection to choose from I went with Elgin’s Pink and Sweet Ozark Orange for the big day. Picked up some super expensive bacon from Uncle Jeff’s overpriced natural food store and damn was it worth it. Extra everything went in a bowl for later, and that was an epic “salad”

Sorry Gotch, but I can't comment on any future BLT sandwiches with tomatoes grown in my garden during the remaining days of this year. At this time, the excessive heat has "killed" and emasculated my entire garden. 112 degrees F tomorrow. Looking forward to winter.

My heartfelt condolences; you's don't have a Fall Planting season?

Normally,,,,,,,, I do have two seasons, but this year, all indicators predict excessive heat into early Sept. Since our first frost usually occurs near November 15, time will not allow fall germinating and harvest. My only hope is for the few plants that severely died back, but retained a little life through the heat to erupt with new life and exuberance with cooler weather. I never count my garden out until I see frost. Some years, I harvest a couple of bushels of green tomatoes from my spring planted plants when frost is predicted. They ripen slowly until the last one is consumed in January.

Well I finally got to have a mater from the garden the only one haha the winner is patio it was small but a very good tomato and my husband wants them next year!! So yah on finding one that we both like and to finding ones to grow every year!! Work in progress

So far we have enjoyed BLT's twice this season and they were outstanding. I sliced up a Brandywine, a Rebel Yell and a Polish tomato for the sandwiches and all 3 were superb. Going to do it again next week and I'll throw in a Dester for comparison. This is my favorite time of the year !
