Re: The Junction's 2023 Giant Tomato Contest
You are aware that I do offer free seed for this event. I try to make the offer in January so that @Mark_Thompson doesn't get too carried away entering fruit all year long. Gosh I think that we should start to charge him entry fees for more than one grow out.AKgardener wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 12:13 pm @Cornelius_Gotchberg My bad I just spelled it wrong cant see dittly one my phone haha.

Keep a watch out for the Giant Tomato Seed offering. Here is a link to what was offered for this year.
viewtopic.php?t=3010
Also if you have seeds of what you believe is a worthy tomato for the giants (especially if it is large AND produces megablooms) please feel free to send them to me so that I can add them to the offering.

Another Pink Stacy, and I did not set the tare because the peepers didn't even register when added. But that’s all moot this morning as I found a 1000g, absolute HOSS of a stud frolicking with the filly's on the back 40!Cornelius_Gotchberg wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 6:25 amVariety, and did you's set the tare for them there after-market add-on eyes.....?

Aren't they though! Everyone is having a good time with it too, which is what growing them is all about. I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. It makes me smile every single time that I look at it. Keep it up and get out your spurs.

Re: The Junction's 2023 Giant Tomato Contest
Due to an extended wet stretch and an explosion of septoria at the stables, yesterday's entry will probably be my last for 2023. I was banking on a later planting of Old Germans for the win when I entered this race, but they have succumbed to the same fate as the earlier planting of Pink Stacy's.
Pink Stacy will reliably put out a delicious 2 pound fruit or two but 10-20 oz. is its normal size range. On the other hand, the Old German's are always reliable for a few 3 pounders. I had numerous prospects in the row of Old German, but those fruit won't be able to finish to their potential without foliage.

That’s too bad about the septoria. I’ve enjoyed looking at your tomatoes. I grew Old German when I first started growing heirlooms and knew even less than I do now. The tomatoes were big, not three pounds big, but maybe getting my soil dialed in I could get them over two pounds. I might have to grow Old German again.Uncle_Feist wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2023 6:29 am Due to an extended wet stretch and an explosion of septoria at the stables, yesterday's entry will probably be my last for 2023. I never thought I was even in this contest of big tomatoes as I received my Domingo seeds direct from the MMMM swap in January of 2023. To be in the contest, didn’t the seeds have to come from @MissS ?
Whatever the rules are, this has been a pretty good thread.
