Re: Tomatoville
The site for me has been running very very slow for the past few months which indicates to me that M has not updated anything there in quite some time. It could be down because M is finally getting around to updating the site. It can take awhile.

Re: Tomatoville
I was on it I think 3 days ago. Saw a DM from someone wanting seeds and I replied back to just send me their address. Then the site has been down for the last 2 days. I feel bad about not getting their info before the site went down.

Re: Tomatoville
I asked google if Tomatoville was down. Here is their responce generated by AI.
Tomatoville's Renaming and Closure:
The online gardening community known as Tomatoville experienced some internal issues and was subsequently renamed to Tomato Junction.

Re: Tomatoville
No, Tomatoville is not down, but it's not accepting new members and there's a related forum called "Tomato Junction" that some users have moved to. [1, 2, 3]
Here's a more detailed explanation: [1, 3]
• Tomatoville's Status: Tomatoville is a forum that was once a popular online community for tomato enthusiasts, but it's currently closed to new members. [1, 3]
• Tomato Junction: Some users who were active on Tomatoville have moved to a new forum called Tomato Junction. [1, 3]
• Mischka's Meltdown: There was some drama surrounding a user named Mischka, which led to the creation of Tomato Junction and a ban on mentioning it on Tomatoville. [1, 2]
• Current Situation: Mentions of Tomato Junction are still not permitted on Tomatoville, and talking about Tomatoville on any other site is a bannable offense. [1]
• Seed Giveaway: Dr. Carolyn's brother is trying to organize and distribute her tomato seed collection through Tomato Junction, as he is banned from Tomatoville. [1]
• HobbyDrama: A Reddit thread titled "[Gardening] "Tomatoville has lots of enemies"" discusses the drama surrounding Tomatoville and the creation of Tomato Junction. [1]

I typed in “Is Tomatoville down”
The above is what “Generative AI is experimental” came up with.

I love this site. I've never seen ANY drama.

SO GLAD to be back! I was locked out for about three months, for some strange reason.
Missed you all terribly!

Re: Tomatoville
Exactly what I typed except for the capital t. I find AI useful but don't take any of it as fact unless I verify it for myself in other ways. Sometimes it gets it right and other times not. The first time I asked about it on google I got one answer, the next time a different one, and the third time yet a different one.
I still have the window open for the post I made and here's a screen capture.

Based on the DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error I got from chrome, it's possible that:
1) The domain registration(website name) was expired and the owner didn't renew it.
2) The domain registration was suspended/cancelled and the site closed down for good.
3) The server of the domain was sent to a different invalid location.

Re: Tomatoville
Having been an original member of both Tomatoville and Tomato Junction and a poster on another site or two, I watched as some folks had problems ( perceived and real) with T-Ville. I was not one of those and continued to visit and post every once in a while. I understood those who gave their reasons to stop visiting since there was a particular gardening site I just could not continue participation.
Tomatoville has had a long and successful run and if it is gone that is the way the world works. If done for, I for one will miss some of the member's input and discussions. If just resetting, I will return and participate. My posts have dwindled in most all the sites since my opinions and experiences are fairly well known and I hate being so redundant.
Of course there are some members whose posts I pretty much ignore but it is not my style to pick...adverse discussions...(thought of a better way to say it). One of the places I went to recently shut down and I am sure some others will in the future. I for one will not bad mouth a site no matter what. I just leave, no explanation necessary. Tomatoville was/is a mainstay for gardening information, particularly tomato growing. Many friendships developed there for me. Each site has its main group and style. I enjoy the differences of each.

Re: Tomatoville
One problem with Tville was when members were banned for life, derogatory comments were added to their profile and/or avatar picture, which was childish and unnecessary. Certain members have been either deleted or banned here for not following site rules, but nothing is added to their membership information.
Yes, Tville has a lot of valuable and informative posts, especially when Carolyn Male was alive and was active. But that seems to not be the case now.

Re: Tomatoville
If Tomatoville has gone I will be sad. Not for the forum that it has now become - a mere shadow of its former self - but for all the great discussions there used to be. If I want to learn others opinions on a particular variety, I always check out TV for an interesting and informative read.

I could not have said it better Paulf. I met a lot of nice people there, gardenweb and here. I met many that have passed on to the great garden of the ever after . The more things that change the more they stay the same. It’s not how much you say but the content of what you say

I really wished I could read the dwarf breeding project threads when I first saw the site a few years back, apparently it was restricted to members only and not publicly available.

Re: Tomatoville
That will be the greatest loss part of it if TV is shut down. Plan B, when all the rubbish was flying around, was for M to lock TV and sell/pass control to @Rajun Gardener for it to be added here as an unalterable sub-forum that all could access. Unfortunately the success of this site upset M and it did not happen.KaguyaCloud wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 1:04 pm I really wished I could read the dwarf breeding project threads when I first saw the sight a few years back, apparently it was restricted to members only and not publicly available.

Re: Tomatoville
I once upon a time, about the time I joined here on TJ, attempted to register for TV, but was unsuccessful for a reason or reasons beyond my comprehension.
I still occasionally or did once in a while go on old public threads on TV to read accounts from various people growing such and such tomatoes. There were or are some tomato growers on TV that posted often enough and that gardened in hot and humid southern locations that I particularly wanted to know about how variety ____ performed in their climate. Seemed like useful and pertinent information they were sharing.
