A Couple of Hurricane Fixes

Little by little things wrecked by Hurricane Helene are getting fixed as time and inclination allow. The 4x4 post that held the garden hose got shoved over by the big pecan when it fell. Yesterday Pickles reset it in a new location after attaching a new cross piece and brackets to the top. Now I won't be tripping all over the stuff. That's a bed of asters in the background. They're all up as well as some lilies on the far right. The woody mess on the trellis behind the hose is a 'Major Wheeler' red honeysuckle. It has buds!

Some things can't be fixed. This ladder, which used to lean against the big pecan when not in use, will probably be there until the end of time as will the tree. I used to set the oscillating fan sprinkler on the top of it to water the corn. It worked really well for that and is easy to move around the garden. Time to buy a new one once I find one on sale somewhere. I won't need it for a while.

Those hardwoods are so heavy when they're green. I'm glad the pecan fell somewhere that you can let it lie.
I had a windshook spruce next to the house which I had taken down in January 24, but when I went to move the logs late summer, I couldn't budge the biggest one. Still laying there, hopefully getting a bit lighter. I'll get a hand with it this spring, anyway.

I was thinking... always a dangerous thing... maybe get out the reciprocating saw and cut the ladder off as far down as I can. Then open it up and use it as a plant stand.

OR... just leave it as is and call it garden art. :D

remember Hand from adams family?
you could put a hand of some type coming out
of the ground on the ladder for a little dark garden art.

or not.

GREAT IDEA! Maybe I can find a mannequin's arm if some store goes out of business. That would work! LOL!

I saw the ladder and thought it was next to a pathway.
Then I realized it was the pecan tree.

Following up on the @rxkeith suggestion, if I could find a mannequin arm with hand maybe I could also get a leg with foot attached to put on the other side of the tree. :D

That would be like the tree falling on Grandpa and killing him in the movie and book Spencer's mountain.

This is what the TV show The Walton's was based on.
I recognized it right off because I had read the book and seen the movie.

That Pecan is insanely massive....
You could build a house out of that, with some kind of massive two man saw and a crew to cut and mill it. ;)
We don't have any trees that size here.

Believe it or not I've seen bigger in the pecan bottoms here in Texas along the Colorado River.
