Thanksgiving dinner.
In another thread I mentioned I wasn't going to cook a turkey this year.
I was told I would change my mind and cook one.
But this time I'm going to do it differently.
It's going to be a butter ball boneless turkey breast and two whole thighs.
Surgery same canned sweet potatoes.
Canned cranberry sauce even though I have a freezer full of cranberries.
I already have corn and green beans.
A store made pie.
Mashed potatoes.
Boxed cornbread dressing.
Homemade fruit salad with apple and grapes.
Been shopping on line to see what it will all cost.
It's going to be around 35 dollars.

Re: Thanks giving dinner.
I bet you it costs about the price of 2 maybe 3 Big Mac meals. you get a quality meal for 3 days from left overs .Sounds like a bargain to me

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
I think I'm going with this one instead.
I won't be cooking it to 165 though.
150F for me so the pop up timer is useless at 150 it'll rise to 160.
I wanted skin on and I can debone and tie it myself.
The butterball was skinless from the looks of it on videos.
One year I deboned a whole turkey.
That was an experience on its own.

@worth1 I would ask your butcher about the skin on this. Your link only states that includes neck skin.

I was thinking the same thing but why would they just leave the neck skin on?
How would it stay on?

Perhaps they remove the necks before they skin the bird. It would be an extra step for them then to remove the skin from the neck.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
I think I've seen them before and they had the skin.
My luck they'll run out.
And it isn't like I can keep it unfrozen for a long time.
I might just buy a whole turkey if they have a small one and butcher debone the breast skin on myself.
That would cut cost considerably.
I just don't want those darned legs.
I'm not a fan of turkey legs.
Maybe I could cure and smoke them.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
I would have nailed it but I added a few things like blue berries too many apples seedless black grapes and really green bananas.
It came to $40.87.
I bought the HEB fresh turkey breast because I could see skin.
Plus three big turkey thighs.
I bought other stuff too but not for Thanksgiving so I subtracted it.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
We will be staying home and cooking turkey...son-in-law sent us a coupon for a free Honeysuckle turkey. He and granddaughter will be here to help eat it. Wife's sister and our niece will be joining us. My wife is a great cook (as proven by my size) and does a bang-up job for the holiday. I will help as much as I can but she is the master.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
My family paid $180 to have Costco handle Thanksgiving dinner. The prep was easy, and every dish tasted homemade.

We let Costco handle Thanksgiving dinner by ordering a premade meal from the warehouse chain's site.
The $180 meal for eight included a turkey breast, rolls, six sides, and two pies.
Our delicious dinner required little work to reheat, giving us more time to spend with family.
I love the holiday season and all the delicious food it brings — so much so that I've even cooked an entire Thanksgiving from Ina Garten recipes.
But in recent years, my family and I have embraced a more simple approach to Turkey Day, turning to chains like Cracker Barrel to order our Thanksgiving meal to-go.
This year, I saw Costco was offering members a deal on a heat-and-serve Thanksgiving dinner for eight and decided to try it.
The $230 Thanksgiving dinner, provided by food distribution company Fortune Fish and Gourmet, was $50 off for Costco members when I preordered, making it just $180.
Although this was about $50 more than last year's Cracker Barrel meal, perks like it being shipped right to my front door and coming with easy-to-follow reheating instructions caught my eye, so I placed an order.
Here's what it was like to let Costco handle our early Thanksgiving dinner, which we planned for when my mother-in-law would be in town.
The Thanksgiving meal included everything my family needed, from rolls to pie.
Our Thanksgiving meal was easy to order online. At checkout, I chose a delivery date a few days before we planned to eat it.
I was emailed easy-to-follow instructions for reheating the meal in advance and it later arrived on my doorstep in a cooler box.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
I recall the Thanksgiving we ate at an Italian restaurant in Clute Texas that actually served real Italian food.
But that day it was all you could eat traditional thanksgiving dinner.
That place isn't around anymore because I imagine the lady that was the owner passed away.
The food was fantastic but there wasn't any leftovers.
Did you ever eat there @karstopography
It was on the highway heading to Anglton.
We are there all the time because it was real Italian food.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
@worth1 I did. I don’t remember going a ton, though. I didn’t get married until 1992 and would not have gone out to eat a whole lot at a place like Mother Teresa’s before I was married. Then, my wife and I moved to Houston in 1994 or so.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
After much personal debate I decided to buy an HEB bakery pecan pie.
I chose a darker one because I like them that way.
Also picked up a bag of marshmallows for that disgusting sweet potato thing everyone makes the I actually like.
Two bottles of Port wine.
One will be mixed with my kirschwasser for the fruit salad.
I mean seriously, what could be better for a fruit salad than a dark sweet grapy and cherry flavored marinade.
The other to drink of which I'm doing now.

Re: Thanksgiving dinner.
I'm cooking my Thanksgiving turkey right now. I'm so excited!. I haven't had a turkey dinner in 5 years now. A scrawny little 9lb bird that is all bone and hardly any meat. It's perfect for me and Murphy (my dog). My daughter is vegan and we will be celebrating with eggplant this year and vegan cheese. I don't know if it will be eggplant parmesean or eggplant lasgna yet.
Tonight's feast is turkey, gravy, homemade cranberry sauce with orange juice and vanilla, roasted acorn squash with butter, maple syrup, vanilla and a touch of bourbon, and then some asparagus. Oh, yes and the stuffing. It's going to bring a smile to my face and Murphy's too.

I bought 2 turkey breasts on sale for the freezer. I will be going to my sisters on Thanksgiving. But today in Costco they had huge pumpkin pies for 5.99. That is a steel. Very big pies.
