Snakes and mousetraps

Does a garter snake have anything to fear from a mousetrap?

I want to put out PVC pipe traps with a normal mouse snap trap inside. They fit inside a 3" ID pipe with enough clearance.
I have seen some variations on youtube but my idea is to cut out a door/window on the "top" of the pipe. The door can sit on top yet, maybe rubber band around it to keep in place but gravity should work. The door is big enough for my hands to clear/reset trap.
Screw the base of the snap trap down to the inside bottom of the PVC.
Put pipe in likely place half buried at ends.
Remove door and set trap, replace door, check daily.

I did not do it this spring. I want to catch voles, but was somewhat concerned with killing baby garter snakes.

Will a baby garter snake be killed by a snap trap? Or is a snake body designed flexiblily enough to withstand the impact? I know they could wriggle free if they aren't "broken" backed, etc.

Your thoughts please.

At least if you catch it in a sticky trap you can rescue it with mineral oil and a bath.
My wife rescued a big snake this way that my neighbor caught.
It was a bull nose snake that has a hood and puffes up.

I only use snap traps under the hood of my car where I don't get unexpected kill. For mice and rats I have good luck with live animal traps.

Will a snake attempt to crawl through a 3" diam 2ft plastic pipe?

My guess is that they would find it a nice place to get out of the sun.

@rdback What a good snake for protecting your car!!!
I had a mouse or chippy chew through some plastic housing under my Subaru, leading to an oil leak and a repair bill! Snakes are handy to have around, but we mostly have just garter snakes which aren't that big.
