EBT
Funny,I bought some tomato seeds at Walmart but the EBT card wouldn't pay for all of them.
It paid for Oregon spring and pink Belgian, but not the Cherokee purple.
It was the 1st time I ever saw Cherokee purple seeds in Walmart, 50 cents per 100mg pack.
I had to kick in $1.06 for the 2 packs of those I bought.
The receipt shows those seeds aren't listed as food but the other ones are.
The local Walmart is one of the few Walmart stores that lets you buy plants with the EBT food stamp card also.

Re: EBT
EBT is supposed to cover all vegetable seeds. I would contact Walmart's manager or better yet, headquarters and let them know about the mislabeling. They should then reimburse you for the seeds, perhaps even give you a store credit too.

Re: EBT
Apparently all the walmarts are different.
Like I said only my local store lets you use the EBT card for even plants.
It all depends on how they enter items into their computer system locally if they are food or not.
A joblot store lets you buy plants but not seeds.
Some stores charge tax on seeds,a few don't.
Another example is a shoprite food store;I can buy cold precooked breaded chicken patties but not the cold cooked potato wedges right next to them.

Re: EBT
I am wondering how your state decides what is covered under their own food share program. I doubt that they allow the stores to decided that one variety of tomato is covered and another not. If the state says that veggie seeds (tomatoes) are covered then Wally World needs to fix their listing to include all tomato seeds without discriminating.

Re: EBT
What brand? $0.50 seems like a low price, were the seeds discounted due to them being from last year? If so, maybe when they coded them to reflect the discount the EBT part did not carry over for all the packs.slugworth wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 7:11 am Funny,I bought some tomato seeds at Walmart but the EBT card wouldn't pay for all of them.

Re: EBT
American seed co. 100mg packed for 2024
The brand you see in dollar stores.
Walmart got them in 2 weeks ago.
Ferry Morse brand I got with the card.
The Oregon spring seeds were American seed co. and ebt paid for those.

I’ve gotten American at one of my Ace hardware stores and they’ve been just fine. Maybe lower seed count but perfect for when I don’t want to grow a ton of something.

Re: EBT
My local Ace had them for 25 cents a pack last year, and then I think they closed them out at 10 cents a pack. I got a bunch of Detroit dark red beets and some zinnias. Will find out this year how they do!DriftlessRoots wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2024 6:10 pmI’ve gotten American at one of my Ace hardware stores and they’ve been just fine. Re: EBT
Seeds and plants that produce food are allowed to be purchased with your EBT card as long as your vendor accepts EBT payments. Nowhere do I see that they can discriminate one variety of seed against another. Your CP seeds should have been covered.

I would have to fight every store that is a problem.
You have questions, they have blank stares.
Like I said,it depends on how the individual stores code the merchandise in their system.
One food store used to sell bundled firewood indoors in their produce department and had a produce price tag on the wood.
So you can guess what I was able to buy.

Re: EBT
going off to fight walmart later.
Ocean state joblot doesn't let you buy any seeds at all.
They got rid of their racks outside normally used for selling plants.
They may not do veggie plants this spring.
The only store that doesn't charge sales tax on plants.

Re: EBT
In walmart I got the Schultz imitation.
I know nothing,nothing.
When I left they were trying to figure out who to ask.
The woman knew nothing about EBT cards.
She was blaming the card,I showed her the receipt with F next to every item the EBT card pays for.
2 packets of seeds had no F for food.
