There should be some Shannon seed in the shed here if no-one else closer responds. Probably 3 or 4 years old, not bagged most likely.

Thanks @Tormato for the Santa Maria seeds!
Thanks @Whwoz ...hopefully someone in the US may have some old Shannon seeds?
Looks like a variety we may want to resurrect?

No problem @HL2601, if no response in a week or so let me know, should not take much to find it.

From memory it was never a variety that got spread around a lot over there, first brought to my attention via a thread I had on TV Called "Breeding for Pastes", where members crmauch and gssgarden posted photos of it. Lucky for me, it had been sent to Oz earlier while tomato seeds were still allowed and I received it from that member, grew it for a number of years and should really grow it again, a good solid meaty tomato that just got missed from the grow list when some others turned up.

Santa Maria is on my wish list. I planned to order some from Remy but she died before I did. RIP.

Heide, after you grow it, I'd be interested to hear what you think of it and would love to see photos of it then, too. I remember when I saw the photos posted by Remy on TV that I thought it looked more like an oxheart than a typical paste so I'm curious to see more photos of it.

Whwoz, if you stumble across any of your photos of Santa Maria, I'd be interested in seeing them, please.

Santa Maria is a super great tasting tomato, fresh or as sauce! It's an irregular shape, lumpy heart.

Thanks for sharing, @ddsack. I found your photos yesterday when I searched here and TV. They are beauties and sure do look like oxhearts. It makes my mouth water just to look at your photos. Thanks!

Thanks, @Whwoz. I haven't heard of Shannon tomatoes so wouldn't mind seeing them. I'll do a search for them in the forums, too.

Sorry, @HL2601, for crashing your post. I just hadn't heard anyone talk about Santa Maria in a while and got a little excited. LOL!

@WoodSprite please always crash my posts in the quest for yummy tomato pics! Thanks @ddsack for yours. They sure look delicious. I am hoping maybe we can get these back into circulation....
Does anyone know what happened to @crmauch? @gssgarden? Maybe I need to go over there and post!

@Whwoz I saw that breeding thread which is what prompted ne to ask for Shannon! For anyone interested in genetics, some very informed discussion about breeding is in that thread.
Hope we can find it in the US. I did post over there too :)

Try PMing gssgarden at Tville. I believe he was the main grower and enthusiastic distributor of Shannon's seeds. I may have some very old seeds from 2010 if you can't find more recent ones.

Would agree with you @ddsack , if memory serves me correctly, Shannons is named after his daughter.

Great leads everyone. Thank you!
I think Neil ( Retiree) from Canada has some. He is checking for me. If he doesn't, watch for my raised hand gss and @ddsack! :)

Dee, did you grow it back then and like it?

@HL2601 It did not do well for me the one year that I grew it, and got lost in the shuffle of too many other varieties to try, so have not grown it a 2nd time.

The correct name to use is Shannon's, as there is a commercial Shannon F1.

Amazing looking seeds Whwoz. Big and plump and hairy. About a decade ago, much of my saved seed looked like that. Today, most of my saved seed is a bit smaller, thinner, with little "hair" on them. I wonder if my restricting of water, in order to maximize flavor, has anything to do with it.

On a side note, if it's OK with you, I've decided to name the Elbonian Mud Ball variant of yours, the pink one to the north of the dark one. If my grow outs continue to be pink, and I decide to release it because it has very good flavor, a name that makes sense to me is "North Elbonian Pinko". I can explain that name if you'd like.
