Re: What's growing in the GH
Hello and Welcome to the Junction. It's great to have you here with your amazing set up. You sure have put some work into that and it looks great. I am looking forward to seeing more.
I don't know if you have read the boards but we are going to be shutting down soon and migrating so that we can now officially use the name "Tomato Junction". It will only be a few hours that you will not have access to the site. Please look at the bottom of the home page at the tutorial. We need everyone to allow Administration to email you prior to the move so that we do not lose anyone in the transfer.

At some point I hope to sell some of the extras. Especially from the lettuce. These are pictures for 2 different GHs that are both still under construction.
Thanks for the kind words!

I picked 1 this morning and was about 1 pound.
But the gro grips are not the way to go. The lettuce completely destroyed them
This mornings lettuce and a few maters from pops place

So what do you grow besides that beautiful lettuce? What nutrients are you feeding your plants? Do you use the greenhouse year round or just for the winter?

Re: What's growing in the GH
Well let's start with the back story.
I started off in a GH I threw together from 2 18x20 carports. Growing hydroponically. It was on some property that I also had blackberries, and muscadines on, along with a couple fruit trees.
I was spending way to much time there and that area has a different school system than where I live and went to school. So after talking with the wife... and losing lol I am moving the GHs to town.
I left the old GH in the country for pops to use and he is still producing great tomatoes.
Here in town I was gonna do 2 GHs. A 18 x 45 in the backyard made from 2 carports and a 34 x 60 that I purchased second hand.
Long story short. I could not pass inspection on them in town due to not have or cannot get a wind rating on these.
So now there will be 5 GHs. 2 in the backyard 18x20 witch are the lettuce houses. And 3 in the front yard. 14.6 x 34.
The deal to not have an inspection is to stay under 500 sq foot.
So after all that lol
I will have a lettuce house in the back yard. Along with a lettuce and strawberry house.
In the front of the 3, 2 will be tomatoes and the 3rd will be a pepper house.
I use the materblend nutrients and followed for the most part the steps to use it from MHPgardener on youtube.
Rajun gardener helped alot along the way with questions I had and also getting pops excited about the GH by allowing us to visit him and eat a couple great maters.
I will be still using the master blend when the GHs are ready but will be changing a few things that I have learned from mr Randy over at CBs greenhosue and gardens over on youtube. It will mostly involve increasing PPM at different intervals to help the plants meet their full potential.
After the GHs are up and going I will be adding in raised beds and grow buckets.
Also will have a small place for cucumbers.
Finally I recently got hooked on dragon fruit and hope to have them ready to go and produce this year.

Thank you for your wonderful reply and sharing your story. It sounds like the greenhouses are keeping you busy, learning a lot and such a fun adventure. Does the family help you out much?
I am really enjoying your thread and can not wait to see what is happening in the GH next so please keep on posting.

My wife helps while I am at work. I work 14 days on and 14 days off.MissS wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2019 11:03 am Thank you for your wonderful reply and sharing your story. It sounds like the greenhouses are keeping you busy, learning a lot and such a fun adventure. Does the family help you out much?

My older daughters 24 and 19 help eat all the veggies. Lol
My 12 year old daughter helps from time to time. She does enjoy just walking around and watching everything grow. She also likes to tell her friends about it and show them.
My 3 year old son loves doing any work with me. But after a few min hes always talks me into fishing in the bayou... lol
Being in the center of a small town to say its the talk of the town is on the light side. Some people are wanting fresh veggies year round and others are fussing about a GH in the front yard.
The GHs keep me busy and out of trouble. Lol
Thanks for the encouragement I try to keep tabs in a couple different places. It's nice to have people that are interested in the same things and also being able to learn from others.
Oh and I forgot to say that we pretty much grow year round into the GHs. Here in south Louisiana July and August are lava hot in them so we dont grow. But it's also a good time to take a break. They are alot more work than they seem.
Thanks again for the encouragement and the kind words!

Re: What's growing in the GH
Yes, I can see that you would be the talk of the town. You were clever and got around the first round of ordinances but there just may be some more coming in the future. Hopefully a grandfather clause will be your ticket.
Isn't gardening great! I tell my friends that it keeps me off of the streets. It is great exercise, good for the mind as it keeps us thinking and great for the soul.
