Re: North Florida Gardening
That room is going to be so handy!
Speaking of Kalibos, I started four more from the new seed sent by Pinetree. Would you happen to remember when you first started noticing a reddish tint in the seedling leaves? My new ones are only 8 days old and I think I might see a very slight reddish tint to the petiole of the first true leaf where it attaches. Maybe. We'll see!

@GoDawgs the Kalibos did indeed start showing color very early, especially on the stems.

Re: North Florida Gardening
@PlainJane any idea on when the tomatoes get put into their final containers, grow bags or raised beds?
I might put mine into the raised beds this weekend.

@karstopography I usually aim for a March 1st plant out, and some of my seedlings might make that. I’m just generally behind this season so we’ll see.

Re: North Florida Gardening
Another chilly, rainy weekend on tap so I just pulled some things to add to the soup in progress.
I’ve already harvested all the Dragon carrots so what’s left are the Naval F1’s from Johnny’s Seeds.
Fennel is bulbing up nicely and the beet is a new one from Fruition Seeds. Beet greens are going into the soup at the end.

Wow. How lucky you are to be harvesting fresh veggies in February.
How do you like the Blushing Not Bashful beet?

I ate some raw and the flavor is wonderful - very sweet. Am going to put in a lot more next cool season.

Re: North Florida Gardening
I’m way, way behind schedule but with a NJ friend helping out this year’s tomatoes are almost all planted out.
Today should see us finishing up.
The bulk planting mix was much rougher than I expected. We spent a lot of time picking out big pieces.
Some of the coco coir just wouldn’t release from the compressed blocks so it took extra time to keep wetting and working it. I’ve never had that happen in any other of the 3 or 4 years I’ve been using the big compressed blocks. Made a note of that vendor and won’t order it again. The GrowIt! brand expands like a dream in comparison.
Ended up with:
Hoosier Outlaw Black Cherry
Green Bee
Maglia Rosa
Benevento
Lime Green Salad
KBX
Mary Reynolds
Daniel Burson
Awesome Emma
Marceline
Green Gables
Owen’s Purple
Lufichoise
Vorlon
Varsovia
Copia Z Dziokiem
Dark Shekel
Vert du Huy
Noire Charbonneuse
Solar Flare
GGWT
Amalfi Orange
Hoy
Cowboy
And hopefully the sweet peppers and flower seedlings get planted today too.

Annoying that the photo is turned 90% despite my saving (and re-saving) in the correct orientation.

Red cabbage, radicchio, nasturtiums and a seedling sweet pepper in one of the 3 barrels by the Smith fig.
I better get going on a greens harvest. And do something with the kalibos cabbage that’s ready to use.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: North Florida Gardening
Tomatoes survived the crazy 2-day wind storm but the one of the garden umbrellas did not.

Re: North Florida Gardening
Nearly all tomatoes now need the second tier of cage support as it’s been great growing weather lately.
Hot and dry will turn to hot and humid any time now as it heads into May.

No frost this winter so the cucamelon never died back. A great snack.

The last batch of kohlrabi are big enough now to start harvesting and first bush beans are getting ready to flower.
Pentas was from last summer.
