Re: Random Images of Where We Live
Take one last look ladies and gentlemen.
Its to old Barton Springs bridge in Austin.
Almost 100 years old.
To make repairs and add on to it to bring it up to date would cost as much money as it would to build a new one.
I can't count how many times I've been over and under this bridge.
The water from Barton springs pool flows under it into what I still call Town Lake.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
The area in question is loaded with history.
And it is getting torn down as fast as they can come up with excuses to do so by the progressive City council.
The engineering firm said the bridge was still sound but they want to tear it down anyway.
Already the war drums are starting to beat over this.
Austin is full of old bridges if you know where to look.
The West 6th Street bridge was opened in 1887.
All masonry. The Congress avenue bridge going over town lake 1910.
The famous bats live under it.
Lamar Blvd bridge over town lake open 1942.
We used to drive down Lamar from 49th Street cross the bridge and get steaks at a store in the area of Lamar and Barton springs road.
Seafood truck was across the street.
All of this is gone now.
But the bridges still stand.

Spotted a grouse hanging out among the freezing rain aka glitter on the cherry birch this morning.
It's as close as we get to a partridge in a pear tree!

I had a Wren in the house yesterday.
Didn't bother it.
I just opened the door and it went out on its own.

Ruffed Grouse aren’t found in my neck of the woods. Spruce grouse, I’ve walked up on quite a few of those in Colorado. Not exactly a brilliant bird these Spruce Grouse, I watched a displaying male fly straight up into an oak trunk and knock himself out, all for a hen.

After driving to East Austin and picking up a guy this morning we drove to Waco Texas and stopped at a park to use the facilities.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
It sure has looked pretty outside during last days, but it was too cold to venture out to take photos of the frozen nature. I snapped some photos from our own yard of the frosted trees. The pictures were taken at noon and the sun is still at so low angle that it hits only the tops of the tall trees in our neighborhood.
This Eurasian blackbird is now second winter here. It comes everyday to eat dry cat food on our balcony and flies back to neighbor's spruce. Picture is quite bad quality, since I took it through window and could not get really close. We try to avoid frightening it when it is extremely cold, because birds need to conserve energy and avoid unnecessary flying. It had a bit of frost on top of the head. Air from its nostrils must be pointing to that direction and moisture freezes on the feathers.

OMG amazing @AKgardener . I've never seen the northern lights here, sad to say. So spectacular!
That's a sweet little moose too.

Re: Random Images of Where We Live
I recall the time some guy behind me on a plane freaked out when he saw the lights.
I mean heart attack freaked out.
Pounding on my seat back.
He had totally locked up and couldn't hardly speak and was sucking in air like he was out of air.
What's that he asked me.
It's the northern lights.
The what?
The aurora borealis.
Oh my God oh my God he exclaimed.
It's okay Sir calm down.
Oh thank God oh thank God.
This man thought he was going through some sort of time warp or something.
Like in the Stephen King movie.
Maybe an alien invasion or the end of time.
In a plane they aren't up in the sky they are right outside the window.
It's like you're right inside the things.
