Re: Grow June bearing strawberries from seed?
We et the big strawberry today! Friend dropped by and we made a wee strawberry and arugula salad. So good.
The strawberry was ripe and red all the way through, juicy, with a pretty classic set of strawberry aroma and taste, not very sweet but lovely to have in late winter.
IDK if the flavor characteristics are due to genetic difference from the one I planted out here, or if the flavor is more subdued due to being under lights in a basement. We'll see but meantime.. nice to have regardless! they may soon be happier out in the greenhouse.

Re: Grow June bearing strawberries from seed?
I can't believe it's less than a month since I posted the pic of the tiny seedlings. All the plants in sixpacks and the ones in 4 inch pots grew really fast and need to be transplanted. In the past couple days I have potted up over a hundred strawberry plants. Another 50 or so are in the asap category, hopefully tomorrow. I need more dirt!
Greenhouse temperatures are not dropping to freezing now (fingers crossed) and most days at least get into the 50's F/10C with some overheating when the sun is out. Strawberry plants so far are tolerating all that pretty well. But we are far from plant out days, so I hope the pot up will be good enough to keep them happy.
