Which seeds did I get?

The ones I sent you were from 2011, the last year my Uncle Bob personally saved seed. So they came from the family farm. My 2018 saved seed were grown from that batch of seed also. Just one generation out.

Picked as many EML's that I could that were showing some color... I am going to try to cover the plants to minimize the cold.

I've always thought seeds should be taken from overipe tomatoes. Will those tomatoes give seeds able to germinate ?

[mention]Ginger2778[/mention] [mention]Barb_FL[/mention] Thanks, with any luck, it will stay rain and not get too cold. I have plenty of picked jalapeños and almost ripe habanero's which would like a few tomatoes to continue canning and fresh eating.

[mention]loulac[/mention] I picked the tomatoes before they were fully mature to allow them to ripen in the garage, away from the forecast freeze. No plans to save any seeds from those.

As long as he lets the tomato ripen fully, the seeds will be fine. I do it all the time.☺

[mention]pondgardner[/mention] I sure hate to hear that. Happened to us last year, but not quite this early. They'd said it was going to to get "chilly" but not cold so we covered everything with sheets against frost. Doesn't help much when the overnight temp gets to 28° I hope you are able to save at least some of your crops.

I’m relieved to hear this. Every year I hesitated to keep seeds from very late varieties that couldn’t fully ripen before the coming of first colds.
I’ll take the liberty of going off line a bit : when I tried sowing seeds from tomatoes heavily hit by late blight it was a complete failure, I swore I would never do the same mistake again.
