Hi from the High Desert

Hello from the high desert of Northern Nevada. My friend referred me a while ago, but I’m just getting around to posting. Hence the username, Malakhitovaya Shkatulka a.k.a. Malachite Box is my favorite tomato. I love GWR and dark tomatoes. I’ve been growing tomatoes for almost 2 decades now, but our weather is getting more intensely hot every year and it’s getting harder for the fruit to set, but I persist!

Welcome to the Junction from Down Under @MalachiteJen. Have you tried Grubs Mystery Green, another very good GWR. You may also want to try the Elbonian series of Dark tomatoes that @Tormato has been working on, with a bit of assistance from one or two others here. Some very tasty dark tomatoes in that lot.

Hi Jen! Malachite Box was a great tomato even here in the North Atlantic! We're having hotter summers too, and I get the same temperature inversions as high desert climate, but lots of rain, drizzle and fog in spring too. Always a challenge, but when you love tomatoes.... :)

Upvote just for the name. I grew MB when Tatiana first released it. Taste and productivity was excellent, but disease prone in my garden.
Welcome to TJ, @MissS is the lady who can answer any questions you may have.

Good to know...is continuing an admitted overexposure in the NASDAQ (YTD. + 19.09%. 1 Year. + 32.44%) prudent, and who'll make it to Super Bowl LVIII?

Asking for a friend...

@MalachiteJen
Welcome to TomatoJunction, from SW Idaho! :)

Are you closer to Reno, or closer to NE Nevada?

If I didn't know better, I might think you were talking about application/exposure rates for a chemical. :)

And this is why we don't confuse stocks and football for foliar sprays application rates.

Welcome @MalachiteJen to the Junction from central Texas! I'm just a newbie, but based on what I've learned so far, it's very bold choosing a user name based on your favorite tomato. :D

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

@Shule I’m gardening in the city of Reno, so not a lot of critters to worry about, except mice. I’m at 4500’ elevation.

@Whwoz Thanks for the recommendation for Grubs Mystery Green. It’s been on my list for a while. Maybe 2025 will be the year! So many varieties to try, so little garden space on my suburban lot!
