Our county fair was last week and my oh my were there some pretty houseplants. I have a dark green Jade Plant which was the only color I had seen them in but nope there were at least 3 variations at our fair. One I got a cutting from could be a Crassula ovata ‘Botany Bay" A beautiful light green with red edging. There was also one with medium green leaves with dark almost black edges that I haven't found in my searches. Sadly I didn't get a start of it. The third was a plain darker green just like the plants I already have... And now I have fallen down a new rabbit hole looking at all the fun and colorful variations there are of the simple Jade plant...

Sadly the coleus entries at our county fair were not as exciting, they were all the common red and green version and looked just like my big coleus plant that was from a start from someone. I was disappointed because I know just how varied and beautiful they can be. Of course the prettiest and fanciest are only available as plants like the small green and white coleus plant I got this year. The good news is that recently they have really been working on seed started varieties and now there are a few that I really like. Guess I will get a packet of mixed colors and see what I get... I would really love to take in some stunning plants next year to show folks they aren't all the same color/pattern.

I don't think I've ever been to a county fair. We will have lots of different festivals throughout the year. I wonder if county fairs are more of a midwest/western thing.

They do seem to be. I had never been to one until we moved to Wyoming but Texas must have had them as they still have a Texas State Fair... Here in Wyoming the county fairs are still a big deal to a lot of folks. They are used to show off the 4H and FFA projects (not all are animals) and there are sections for Open and Open to the World exhibits. Open is limited to county residents and it was those plants mostly that I was looking at. I am a co-superintendent for the crafts department in the Open static exhibits so spend the whole week at the fairgrounds from 9 am to 8 pm. Tiring but fun.
