Flower Seeds for MMMM swap

I am starting a new topic so that I don’t blow up the wishlist thread. In order to minimize the amount of work our gracious host Gary needs to do fulfilling wishlist, and since some flowers require the extra step of cold stratification, I am going to be putting the flower seeds in a card specific to each username that Gary can mail at the end of this year before all the large packages are put together. Collecting seeds is a little tricky because I need to do it through the season based on bloom cycles, and for some of those it’s way before mailing in the swap. This will also give me time to label and individually bag for each person. Some of these may have limited production. You can either comment or send me a PM with 15 varieties you want (feel free to list substitutes) by September 30th.

If you are not familiar with cold stratification, some perennials require a period of 60-90 days in moist soil at a temperature below 40F to break dormancy. This can be accomplished outside if your temperatures get below 40F or in your fridge or freezer.

🌱 Native (note I did not mark as native if the variety I have is a navitar/cultivar)

Your yard must be beautiful. It sounds as if you have quite the gardens!

It's so nice of you to help Gary out with this. What a great idea.

Are there any on your list that must be below 40, but cannot be frozen?

I am in zone 6, so anything On the list that is perennial can handle at least -10 F. I think most freezers are set at 0 to 20 F?
There are perennials listed than can handle winter temperatures from zone 3 (-30F) to zone 6 (-10F). As I have a little more time I can update the list to show which are annuals which are perennials, and of the perennials, which need cold stratification, which can be planted without cold stratification, and hardiness zone.

Marigolds, sunflowers and zinnias are the most popular flowers in the swap. So, those are always welcome in seed packages. Perhaps I'm missing some other very popular flower type?

One thing that I'd like to see is height descriptions on varieties sent in. Many people ask for only short flowers or only tall flowers, and any type of flower will do. I consider short flowers to be up to 18 inches tall, and tall flowers to be over 2 feet tall. I don't fuss over the in-between, 18" - 24" height.

I updated the list above with heights and will include on the label.

@NYTomatoNewbie The problem with stating that a plant is a native, is that this is a global society here. What is native in your neighborhood is a foreigner for another. If you want to say that it is native, then you have to state where it is native to. Every plant is a native somewhere.

Bagged up nine bags of orange cosmos today. 30-40 seeds per bag is a rough estimate. These are hardy volunteers and apparently require next to zero pampering. Now in the MMMM bag going to Westfield at some point. Thinking November.
