The 2024 Giant Tomato Contest is open.

Come join in on the challenge of growing the biggest Monster Mater on the Junction.

There is a seed offer up for some varieties known to produce large fruit. Check it out . You do not need to use seed from that offer, any seed will do.
To enter you will need a picture of your own fruit on a scale from 2024 along with the variety name. (No Sandbagging)

The winner will receive bragging rights, a can of spam and first choice on the seed offer for 2025. We now have some really big ones!

I'm so looking forward to see this years line-up. Let the rumpus begin!!!

Another good source for monster seed is Giant Pumpkins but do be prepared to be paying $15.00 upwards per seed. They offer auctions on Friday nights. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=138

I'm going to bid on the tomatoes at Big Pumpkin this week to see if I can get us some more competition seed to work with, so please don't be bidding against me as I will be sharing these here.

OT, but the Ugliest Tomato Photo Contest didn't get much traction last season, despite any number of past...um...eminently deserving participants (viewtopic.php?t=1299&hilit=ugliest+tomato); should it be reprised?

Bear in mind, yer Ugliest Tomato ain't yet been planted; we all know how to encourage size...so...how do you's stimulate...welp...you's get the picture.

A couple of ringins from the folks, they didn't worry about tags so not 100% sure as to variety, probably Zenas Gift.

I made a big dent at the Big Pumpkin Auction last night. It was a fun way to spend a Friday night. I won some great seeds from the best of the best growers of these monsters. I would like to share my winnings with you who are wanting to grow the BIG ONE. The seed comes from tomatoes weighing 6-11 lbs. Of course I only have about 5-10 seeds of each tomato. Given that, I have been perplexed as to how to distribute the seeds fairly. I am thinking of bagging one seed per bag and then reaching in the pot and randomly taking one and filling your envelopes with three bags each. OR we could have a raffle and I could number the bags and you choose a number and I add them to your envelope.

Any other suggestions are appreciated. What do you think is the best wat to fairly distribute the seeds?

I am also making a seed offer for some long gourds and giant pumpkins that I won in the lots. Check the seed offer forum for them next week.

There is now a prize offered for the biggest tomato.

I am holding everyone's envelopes until the new seed arrives. @Whwoz this means you too.

@MissS However you decide to divide up those seeds is fine, you’ll get no complaints from me. Excited to see what everyone can come up with this year!

Thank you @MissS . Looking forward to whatever arrives, wether it be from the new seed or a selection from what was grown last year.

Here is a good thread on one woman's experience growing giant tomatoes. It's very informative.
http://www.tomatoville.com/showthread.php?t=29799

Also a link to Marv Meisner's book 'Giant Tomatoes'. Well the link won't work for me. There is a book on Amazon titled 'Giant Tomatoes' if you are interested.
