my sons girl friends mother has expressed an interest in my uncle steve italian pole bean.
her family lives in scottsdale arizona.
if anybody lives near there or has a similar climate, when do you start your pole beans. uncle steve
is better suited for more northern climates. it grew well in the detroit area. once temps hit the 90s for
a sustained period, production would slow way down, then pick up again near early september, and continue
to produce till frost killed.
temps down arizona way reach 100 plus right. that would turn uncle steve into a crispy critter.
uncle steve is about a 75 day bean. whats best? early spring planting, or late summer planting for fall harvest.

Yes, start them right after the last frost so they have time to produce before the extreme heat arrives. I don't recommend growing in Summer. Days on end of 110F (43C) is stressful and they won't produce again until it cools down in September/October if they survive. Plant a new crop with the monsoon season (July/August) for a better chance of success.
Cowpeas do well in the Summer heat here but not other varieties of beans/peas.
