Brief Cold Air heading to South Florida this week
Heads up to all of the growers down in South Florida. The European weather model (ECMWF) is showing a low Wednesday morning around 40 all the way down to Miami. The American model (GFS) is not as cold. As a Meteorologist, I usually believe the ECMWF much more often than the GFS. You all may already know this is coming, but I wanted to send out a "heads up" just in case.

Thank you Lee. We'll be excited if it breaks 50! Kind of a treat for us when it does. I'm not too worried about the tomatoes. Thanks for the warning.

Do you Florida members even own winter coats? You will be freezing.

Not really but I guess that you will find out.
Actually I wore a fleece to the gym last week when it was 24° and seriously windy and the wind went right through my fleece. I have moved up to a winter coat now.

Hopefully the 40's will knock back the bugs and spark my Lychee tree to bloom.

Flannel sheets are already on the bed and down comforter standing by.

Bring it on!!!
I've been going out at dark every night with my black light and picking caterpillars off my plants. I probably find about 10 a night. Some are in the cocoon stage but others looks just like tomato hornworms without the horn. So in the dark, it isn't so bad, but when I use my headlamp, it is so incredibly buggy especially on the side with the blooming mango tree.

It's gotta be cold down there for the National Weather Service in Miami to issue an Iguana Warning.

The morning weather lady said our "feels like" could even be in the 20s. I hope a fair amount of iguanas die. They are completely taking over.

If they are that much of a nuisance you could go out tonight with a bucket of water, pick them up off the ground and drop them in.Ginger2778 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 8:34 pmThe morning weather lady said our "feels like" could even be in the 20s. How did your plants do over the night? Hopefully everything is fine. Tomatoes are survivalists they can take some pretty cold conditions if covered from the frost settling on them.

Can't tell yet. They will take a few days to show damage.

Well that's good news so far. When they get really cold they just turn to much.

Thanks, that's encouraging to read. We never get frosts anymore for about 11 years now. Not one.

Re: Brief Cold Air heading to South Florida this week
In our area we are experiencing a "heat wave" where the high temp is at 32 F after several days of single digits. 40s would be wonderful. Our iguanas all fell out of the trees months ago.
