Today I made a sweet potato pie from the Vardeman sweet potatoes that I grew this year.
The little hand pies on the side are jelly pies like my Mom used to make with left over pie dough. She always used grape jelly but I used some of my home made pear jelly.

That sweet potato pie looks delicious, and very pretty, too. I haven't ever had a jelly pie. My grandmother always made "butterscotch" pies with her leftover dough -- pat it out in a tiny pie plate and add butter, milk and brown sugar, then bake until it became bubbly and a little bit custardy. I loved those.

I haven't had butterscotch pie in a 100 years.
I love the things.

The pie looks great.
I was going to make one earlier this week, however while I was looking for recipes I found some for sweet potato bread.
I decided to make that instead

Well done! That looks so good. I'm definitely making one of those instead of pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving this year.
When we'd visit, my grandmother would just bake the extra dough flat on a cookie sheet and we'd put jelly on top when they came out of the oven. Those were the days.
