Greetings from NorthWest PA. I’m here because I love tomatoes and want to learn more. I recently sent off my seed order which included Carbon Copy tomato seeds because I read how great Ron’s Carbon Copy is. Now I wonder if I ordered the wrong variety. Any comments on Carbon Copy?

Welcome. CC is a very good variety indeed, so you made a good choice.

It started out life as Carbon Copy but then, I believe, there were some indications that it was not stable, so Ron worked on it some more and re-named the stable variety "Ron's Carbon Copy". I have the original version which grows true for me, and I like it just fine .

I have grown out carbon copy and it was a very nice tomato for me! I don't know how it differs from Ron's Carbon Copy, sorry. It's not going to be a disaster or anything, give it a chance and it might be a new favourite! If not, try again the next year.

I grew Ron's Carbon Copy in 2016, overwatered, and it was very sweet with a simple, rich, earthy sort of flavor. It would probably taste better if it weren't overwatered, though. Regular Carbon tastes fantastic with drought.

My Ron's Carbon Copy took a really long time to germinate.

I saved seeds, and they turned out to be an accidental cross (I imagine from my garden) when I grew them, but the cross was so good, and so complex; very unique; very sweet. Shiny pink fruits significantly larger than RCC's. I saved and grew seeds from that and the size reverted back to normal. The fruits were a dull pink and good and sweet/tart, but not like the previous year.

I grew two regular Carbon plants in 2020 and loved the variety. Yes, you can have big super sweet tomatoes, apparently.

If you like RCC, I recommend trying Black Cherry and SunChocola F1 (although I've only grown an F2 of it, so far; so the F1 might taste a lot different). They're not the same as RCC or even each other, but if you like RCC, I would guess you'd like those, too.

Anyway, I don't know how close my RCC is to your CC.

Shule, Interesting! Ron sent me some of his "Ron's CC" and they took a whole month to germinate. I gave up, and went back to the original Carbon Copy seeds that I had.
