I like the brown/black/maroon tomatoes. I'll be starting seeds for the spring crop in early January 2021, and will be trying these two new varieties. If anyone has grown them can you give feedback?

Nyagous and Japanese Trifele Black.

Have grown JBT the last two seasons in a row. Did not do as good last year in hat crazy summer we did (not) have than the previous seasons hot one, but then again not a lot did really well last summer. Like it a lot but simply no room for it this year - too many new ones to try. Would often grab one for a snack. description on pack is good.

Did try Nyagous several years ago. Golfball size fruit. It did not like south Florida warm climate winter. It was not a favorite of mine for taste as well and have not grown it again. There are other better black varieties for our FL climate...Carbon and Black from Tula are my favorite black tomatoes.

Japanese Black Trifele is a good one. Large, fat, prolific pears. A lot of people love the taste (mine wasn't a personal favorite for flavor in 2020, but it was decent and I've only grown it once, in one set of conditions). I'd recommend growing it, though. The plant isn't huge (but it's not tiny, either). The fruits are easy to harvest. It's a fun one to grow. Potato leaf. I'm growing it again this year.

If you like maroon tomatoes, you should try Girl Girl's Weird Thing. It's as close to maroon as I've seen in a tomato.

I second Carbon. Great taste; very sweet.

If you like the brown-black beefs, I would also recommend Tsindao to try another year. I got this from Marina Russian some years ago. Very sweet and a good midseason producer. I still have seeds although they're getting older.

Cherokee Purple. Lobed fruit. .

Yesterday I picked these not yet fully ripe Cherokee Purples. Like so many I don't want to risk damage from birds, squirrels, insects, and worms. Should be good to eat in a few days.

The next few weeks should show lots of ripe tomatoes across all (or most) of my varieties.

Black Krim, in various stages of ripeness. I had a problem with worms on a couple of plants this year so I picked at first blush.

Wonderful pictures have me wanting a home grown tomato so much. Great detail in the pictures of the plants.

Japanese Black Trifele is on my must grow list. I like the shape and color. The plant is one of a few that lived through the winter. I just picked one a couple of days ago. Also still around is Black Cherry also a must grow not for flavor but good production and good looks. My favorite black is Carbon. A good looking blemish free nice sized slicer with good flavor.

I’ve got several dark ones out in the garden or awaiting transfer to garden. I have Black Krim, Japanese Black Trifele, Cherokee Purple and Purple Boy either in the raised beds or about to go into the raised beds. I believe I’ve only eaten Cherokee Purple and Cherokee Carbon, but I’m already hooked on dark tomatoes based on the taste of those two dark tomatoes. My buddy nearby grew Black Krim last season and said Black Krim was one of his two favorite tomatoes for flavor and production. My BK plant is from his saved seed.

Dark tomatoes will remain in my garden for years to come, that’s the plan. I plan of adding new varieties in future seasons. There’s definitely a quest among many members here on TJ for the perfect pink tomato. There might be interest for a similar discussion for dark tomatoes.

These are the only rounds that we grow each year,Kumato,Garden Peach.The Kumato seeds came from Canada years ago when the were sold in sleeves as you see at Whole Foods,Fresh markets etc.Now the Kumato come from Mexico.The mater will grow to ten foot,at least 20 pounds of nice maters.They last forever on shelf.

Curious about how you planted those tomatoes. It looks like they are 12" apart, single-stemmed and topped after the third fruit set? Asking because I am trying to decide if I should follow that approach to maximize the number of plants in my garden.

Sorry don’t have the tops in images.All container grown,they go to 10 foot,I am lazy and let the leaders go nuts.This is inside my screened in pool enclosure.The cherrys top out at twelve.

I grew Japanese Black Trifele again in 2021. I grew three plants. They were very prolific. Firm fruits (they were softer in 2020). I ended up eating most of the ones we didn't can or dry (other people gravitated toward other varieties). However, the taste was good.

In 2021, I gave them (as well as most of the other tomatoes) foliar sprays of fertilizer (calcium nitrate, Miracle Gro, and potassium sulfate), and I added Epsom salt to the soil.

I don't think I gave them anything in 2020.

I'm going to throw in black plum for here in Texas.
Not a huge tomato but they produce here in the summer and taste good too.
Great for salads and with enough make a good sauce.
It's been years since I've grown it because it's been years since I started from seeds.
