Why Do Some of My Tomatoes Have Holes In Them?

This is my Artisan Taste Patio--most of them look ok, but several of them look like this:

Something was nibbling on them awhile ago. They have healed over and that is the scar.

Really? I noticed this at least a week ago...they were so green and small I don't know what would want to nibble on them. Prior to this year I have only grown cherry tomatoes, so I thought maybe this was one of those bigger tomato things, like don't beefsteak tomatoes get these kind of voids in the outside? I'm not doubting you, I'm just asking. The ones with the voids are also kind of misshapen, you can see that in the one in the first picture, but in the second picture the one that has the void is very wide, the other one is shaped like an egg (as they are supposed to be for this plant).
