Yes, and a lot are new to me, going to be an interesting year tomato wise. Now to hope La Nina stays away for a nice, warm summer that is not to wet.

The Elbonian Sth Dark F5 is most likely true to Elbonian Mudball.

With the Nth Pink F5, I think that I was going to name it North Elbonian Pinko. But, you can choose something else if you'd like.

Yes, he has been responsible for a fair degree of what I planted. A great growing year is everyone's wish, does not always arrive unfortunately. But fortunately, we do not know that before hand.

10 days down the track and finally some germination amongst the tomatoes. Had not seen any sign of germination two days ago so out came the Calcium Nitrate and now lots of germination in a number of cells. Not sure what was going on as same mix as peppers got and they came up nicely with the odd stragglers still popping up. Maybe a seasonal thing?

Some people here believe that moon phases affect germination and also future growth of the sown plants. Personally I have never noticed any correlation between germination speed and moon phase, but every time I complain about slow germination speed in a Finnish tomato grower's group, some people insist that I have sown at wrong date.

Possible @svalli , certainly possible. There are those that believe in planting by the moon here too,
Our calendar doesn't show moon phases, so I can't say what at what stage the moon was when I showed the seed.

@Cornelius_Gotchberg , garlic gets planted here in autumn/fall, anytime between mid February to late May, depending upon the group involved. All garlic is well up and I will start harvesting in about 6 to 8 weeks. If the season does not warm up faster than normal, it is possible that I could still be harvesting garlic after Christmas.

@Whwoz; back to Square One for anything I thought I knew about Southern Hemisphere Garlic Ranching...

The Gotch

Had some good germination following the application of calcium nitrate, must have been close to 100% on the bulk of the varieties, a few stragglers still poking heads up and a dozen or 14 that didn't show. So 295 potted up today. Will give me a we to observe before we go travelling up into the flood country that is Northern New South Wales. Hopefully no more rain up there for next week or three.

Plant sitter sorted and with luck that rain holds off here also so that I can knock some beds into shape for planting when we get back.

@Whwoz how much calcium nitrate did you use?

@MissS , it would have been about 1 gram in roughly half a litre of water, or about 0.5%. Neither weight not volume was accurately measured, so could have been upto a 1% solution but doubt if stronger than that. Just poured with a watering can over the tray of seed.

In the three days since I potted up the tomatoes, the tray of leftovers has been sitting in the shed, three more varieties have poked their heads up. These are Variegated, Vincent's White, both new to me and Red Pear Granissimo, one of the big Italian pear sauce tomatoes which I have grown previously. Back onto the heat pad for a pot up on Thursday before we go travelling on Friday.
Considering that we have four bee hives on site, I have also started some flower seeds this year, with Hibiscus trionum, some Zinnias and Brachyscome iberidifolia, a native daisy already up. Picked up a mega punnet of Sweet Alice today also. Gota keep those bees happy.

Wondering if Sweet Alice is similar to Sweet Alyssum?

Yes @PlainJane , same plant. Sweet Alice is what I have known it as for 40 odd years, but often sold here as Alyssum.

Thank you for the good wishes @Bower . We will be doing the trip we had planned to do before Covid hit. Going up through the area burnt badly in 2019, taking camera and will report , hopefully I will be able to keep it up as we go. Intend to go to several zoos the kids like, feed some sharks and rays, travel the Seacliff bridge and Sydney Harbour bridge and catch up with friends. Hopefully it will be drier up there than it has been of late.
