I appreciate your purist commitment, however, there is someone in this very thread who is substituting for major ingredients (Lettuce!). Certainly that transgression is far more deserving of purity police attention than a simple mayo upgrade?

I'm just answering a question that was asked about our opinions on it. Not trying to be a purist. :) I don't have strong opinions about the topic, and other poeple's views aren't offensive. I don't remember a question about the lettuce substitute. To be honest, I've only eaten about five BLTs in my life . . .

Oh my goodness, it’s time to turn that around! Talk to your wife about getting on the @Cornelius_Gotchberg plan, one a week sounds amazing to me

Yeah, buddy! But it's ONCE a week, not ONE a week; each Monday Morning BLT Brunch features TWO selections....both, as luck would have it...from the BLT genre.

@karstopography, the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch is jonesin' for that Jalapeño and Cheddar bread you's featured and she's put her adoring husband on its trail!

I wonder if they use high temperature cheese in the bread.
Just in case someone doesn't know what high temperature cheese is.
High temperature cheese is a special cheese with a higher melting point for making sausage with cheese in it.
The melting point of around 400°F is higher than the cooking point of the sausage.
Regular cheddar cheese has a melting point of about 150°F.
Much lower than the temperature bread is baked at internaly when done.

If one has ever tried maruba santoh, fresh from the garden, one would understand the substitution. ;)

Thanks for the hospitality, but I come to find that the HyVee (a mere .7 miles/1.13 kms from our front door) carries four (4) varieties.

@Cornelius_Gotchberg I kind of figured a major hub of intellect, culture and diversity like Madison WESconsin would have some bread with cheddar and jalapeños. Hope y’all enjoy the bread!

BLT’s for dinner last night. Gotta hat tip @Tormato for that bacon cooking video, game changer for sure. Malachite Box and generic wheat bread.

There are a few ways of cookin' it. Did you do the oven at 400 degrees for 20 minutes?

And, it looks like they were baked ON a wire rack (extra instructions say to place a wire rack on the woven bacon, to keep it flat when cooking). It gets me thinking about getting 2 wire racks, one placed on a baking sheet, then the bacon (fat will drain away), then the other rack on top of the bacon.

I have no such racks, so it looks like some shopping before the tomatoes start to ripen.

Wow @Mark_Thompson that looks delicious. And interesting you are enjoying Malachite Box as that is the first tomato for me to set tomatoes this year so I expect they will ripen first. My favorite GWR next to Green Gables which might beat MB in ripening! I also break with protocol in that I use lettuce leaf basil when lettuce isn’t available in the fridge. Each Basil leaf is as big as a lettuce leaf and what a marvelous flavor with the regular other ingredients!

@Gardadore I do love my GWR’s. I would pick Green Giant if I had the choice, but MB is a winner too. I tried that lettuce leaf basil once but couldn’t get it to grow for me. Sounds great though. Guess it’s a BBT if you’ve got the basil substitution.

@Tormato Wife cooked bacon, but we’ve been doing 400 for 20-25 minutes for a couple years now. The grate was under, I guess next time we can put one over too, but it turned out just fine without it. The racks are from Target, they have better non-stick than the Walmart ones we had for years.

@Mark_Thompson; Lettuce Leaf Basil is a mainstay, here, and in a container for the 1st time.

VERDICT: A VERY SLOW grower (whose seeds couldn't possibly get any smaller without disappearing!) but well worth the effort!

Humm, I’ve got lettuce leaf basil out in the garden. I’ve got about 1.5 pounds of bacon in the fridge, I’ve got a 1 pound Aussie tomato about 1-2 days away from perfection on the counter.

Wife’s going out of town Thursday morning. I think I know what I’m eating Thursday evening.

Wish I had a tomato to harvest as my Lettuce Leaf is doing so well. I have been eating it with chicken sandwiches! My big problem with this variety is that usually something starts chewing on it but not the others. Mine is planted in a table top garden. So far very few bugs on it this year. I always sprinkle Sluggo around in the beginning.
I also love Green Giant but chose the other two for this year because GG is later.
