Might have, likely dipped into the 40s overnight with the dry and still air. Going to 78° with total sunshine. March is one of the most pleasant months for weather here, all things considered, although I very much enjoy the ample heat of summer. I’m glad the heat is finite, though, and not a year round type of deal.
Pattern is for more sunshine until Saturday, a little cooler the second half of the week. Easy peasy gardening weather.

First day of what looks like a lengthy thaw here. 41 F and foggy, puddles everywhere and many patches of unmelted snow. Supposed to hit 54F/12C today and 57F/14C tomorrow, with all forecast highs above freezing except for Wednesday, that looks like our best chance of the storm we call Sheila's Brush, and that looks to be freezing rain.
Red squirrels here had their 'mating chase' day yesterday. I have to get some trees cut asap around the house and driveway, to discourage any attempt to nest in or chew on the car. Or the house. As of now, too wet to do even a little cutting today.

I got just over 1½" of rain last night. No thunder, at least that woke me up! Not much early sun today, but getting better already, but the temperature going down slowly, instead of up, and down to 34° tonight, so I have to watch those forecast lows closely.

Several inches of snow possible in the Northwoods with 1-4" possible here today. It's raining and cold, and tomorrow is the first day of Spring.

It was definitely cool this morning - down in the high 30s overnight, but forecast to get up to 70° later today. First day of spring is supposed to get in the high 60s, so about 10° above average, with some heavy rain later in the afternoon, though not long lasting, and bringing the temps back down to normal. No freezing lows still, which is good.

A nasty spring blizzard went just north of us yesterday. We got the 50mph winds but no snow. Fifties today and still too dry for the upcoming future…back into the sixties soon. Typical spring temps but way too dry. We need the rain.

I haven't been out there to see how much rain came down tonight, but it rained for quite a while, and it finally stopped, after around 11:30, and there was quite a bit of thunder earlier in the evening. It was over 70° today, and is still in the 50s after midnight, and staying in the 50s tomorrow, then back up in the 60s Saturday. Incredible rollercoaster with those temperatures! Saturday night is the only time forecast ti be at freezer, but it is so brief, I'll probably just set the three valves on a very slow drip, with a bucket underneath.

Yea, that was me. The bullseye for the narrow band of 10-12 inches of snow was estimated to hit on the Iowa side, but withing a few hours suddenly slowed and developed over my area. It was pretty harsh for a few hours here in the city, but only 5 inches of snow remained after all the rain and ice fell before turning to snow.
At my country growing place, that is another story. If you saw news footage of a rural area in eastern Nebraska with rows of wooden power poles leaning over or snapped in half, that was taken on the county road my property sits on. I neglected to get my new neighbor's phone number, so I'm getting info from FB and local news. For sure power is still out, and will be at least till Monday. The 2 lane road was unsafe to drive on due to the multitude of potential downed live wires. There was an early report of a tractor trailer in the ditch with no responders during the height of the storm. Thankfully no injuries or deaths. Crews from other areas and states have arrived and are working non stop and in cold winds.
I lost my 2 year stash of frozen peppers and tomato sauce from the power lines being torn up at my nearby cabin before the 2024 tornado touched down a few miles to the east. I cleaned out that freezer and restocked in abundance after a great growing season. In fact, I hardly started any vegetable seeds this year (well maybe a few dozen, just not a few hundred) and I instead started different berries to boost energy which is in short supply lately. I should start more seeds, but i's getting late, especially for peppers. I prefer tall seedlings when growing on the prairie

So far the peppers in the basement are doing OK. Still pretty small but they were started three weeks ago. When the time comes I would be glad to meet and share what you need. As for tomatoes I did plant way more than necessary. Only a couple have sprouted but it is early days yet. I will gladly share all I have. At only an hour apart it would be an easy drive for me.

That is so kind of you, Paul. I'd love to finally meet you and share our years of growing experiences. I'm going to start a few extras today myself, but a lot can happen over the next month. Did you see on Accuweather we are on the edge of having another polar vortex potentially come thru in early April. In April !!! I just put my knit winter hats away yesterday.
For any one wishing to see the amazing recovery efforts in my rural area, photos are on FB at Fremont Tribune, no group joining necessary. The also have a webpage FremontTribune.com

Let me know what I can do. Maybe we can resurrect the tomato tasting gatherings. We used to get together in Lincoln but the Omaha area would work. The vortex can turn to rain and be more welcome, but the snow blower is still in the garage.

the last winter storm was a big nothing event here, but we got another one rolling
in tomorrow thats supposed to drop 5 to 10 inches of snow on us. 40 mph winds
predicted. right now its sunny, blue sky, hardly a cloud to be seen. its only 23 degrees,
cold, but not a bad day. how things can change, in such a short time. low 30s for a few
days before it starts warming up a bit.

We're on a roll here, with highs above freezing every day, and warm enough in the past days to disappear pretty much all the snow even in shady places. Some temperature records have fallen across the island in recent days.
I really hope we are on the outside of that last blast of polar air! Although I do expect to see snow fall yet, before we can call it an early spring.

Raining before midnight last night, and still this morning, lasting to maybe 2 pm, but still, not much rain - maybe it will get heavier. Only getting to maybe 58° today, which is about normal for now.
