Going to have a spell of cold hitting us pretty good this week, not as cold as some of ya'll, but cold enough here with single digits for some nights. Normal winds though, and the windchills will be fierce for here. The electric company people are happy to plan a better college for the kids after all, LOL.

I'll be climbing on the desk soon, putting up a smaller comforter to block the cold from the two windows snuggling into the electric throw for the old person and a larger heating pad for the old cat. We keep the thermostat at 66F to save on the electric a bit. Easier & cheaper to heat people ( and 1 old cat) than the whole house.

Just don't let your pipes freeze @Danny . 66F should be fine, yeah, that's a smart plan with the pad and the heater clothes. I hear ya.... Stay warm!
We're having highs around the freezing mark this week... lovin it. Snowed in the morning. Shoveled at noon the wee but wet cover, then it froze rain for a few hours. Furnace is running a lot, even though it's warmer out. Ahhhh, february.....

Going to get cold again.
What can I say.
I had a flat tire this morning on the way to work and it took an hour to change it out.
I was lucky that it was just outside of Bastrop and I was able to back into an on ramp hardly anyone uses and into a parking lot.
Then I felt really lucky that it wasn't tomorrow morning instead of today.
That would have really been bad.

The wind will not go away here, even at night, when it usually dies down some. Sustained winds still in the 20s, and gusts in the 30s, with temps maybe reaching 30° (still 25° at 11 am), so wind chills in the teens. Friday is the first day that is forecast to be above freezing.

More rollercoaster weather...1˚F(-17˚C) this morning, expected to get to a high of 14˚F(-10˚C) today. Then shooting back up to 70˚F(21˚C) by Sunday. Good thing the garlic has a heavy layer of pine needles on it to keep anything from breaking the surface. Hopefully the 2nd year asparagus planting doesn't emerge...

After seeing this video of the water main break in Detroit, I think I will be happy with the weather here. 😱

Still in the 20s today, with the wind picking up again. Yesterday the wind finally died down for a day, but that didn't last long. Next 3 days temps rise slowly, until finally getting to average on Sunday, around 45°, before going up into the 50s.

This has got to be the most miserable week of the year.
It's supposed to get better by Sunday.
I hope it's the last one.
They normally don't last this long this cold.

Getting hot again. I think it touched 80 today and no more highs that start with a 7 are in the current forecast. Looking at our first 90 degree day in the middle of next week

We just had another 25 cm here yesterday, so I'll be shoveling after breakfast.
It's looking like a mild end to february with some rain ahead, but then there's March... it ain't over for us yet. ;)

I agree. Not been above 50° here in several days. Mostly been in the 30s and low 40s. Next week looks spectacular.

Snow is melting, it's supposed to hit 40F above over the next few days. Of course, we can still get plenty of snow, even a blizzard, as late as mid-April. And just because our average last frost date is May 10 doesn't mean we can't get a hard freeze afterwords! Most people here don't put frost-sensitive stuff out until Memorial Day weekend. I let the soil temps be my guide as well.

LFD here is early June. But there's lots of stuff growing by then. What's a little snow.
April snow? Doesn't last. May snow doesn't either. June snow, pretty much furtive.
We should get more sleet in March than snow. We'll have some frozen days alright, probably not as much to shovel. ;)

Sheridan and Gillette are way north of us much closer to Montana then where I live down in southern Wyoming. That article did mention that here in Cheyenne we got a whooping 7.1 inches of snow from that storm The biggest snow fall was higher up in elevation then I am. The ski resorts are thrilled with the snow but it has caused a couple of small avalanches that snarled traffic on main roads. Most of us are thrilled at the moisture.. I think the coldest it got here was a minus 4F one night which is plenty cold thank you. We are looking forward to a week of warm weather but that means the wind speeds will be up ie we will have 40 to 50 mph wind gusts for a few days with steady winds of 20 to 35 mph. It was a nice snow for this time of year.

True, no need to shovel, but the cold snow keeps the soil temperatures cold as well. My garlic doesn't mind but my potatoes do! Any plants that I foolishly put into the ground will be runted and unproductive. That April blizzard put planting off by a good month! In our short growing seasons, this matters. But hey, no mosquitoes, right?

@JayneR13 I think you get colder temperatures than we do, overall. We have late frosts but it's pretty shallow. When frost strikes deep in bare ground, it can take a long time to thaw! Our 'normal' summers are not very hot, but our 'normal' winters aren't that cold either. We spend a fair bit of time in the cool but not quite freezing zone, so "runted and unproductive" is probably about average through June... and we're delighted!!. :D
