Gary, USPS tracking shows my package was delivered Thursday afternoon 1/2/25. It is a shirt sized brown cardboard box. I hope it didn't blow off your porch into the hinterlands. Happens all the time here at my place. Maybe a little sluething in the bushes could turn something up..

Your item was delivered at the front door or porch at 3:29 pm on January 2, 2025 in WESTFIELD, MA 01085.

I've yet to post this week's arrivals.

The mailman delivered it to the front door, rather than the porch. And, the chocolate kept it weighted down so that it didn't blow away. ;)

It is very windy here today - frequent gusts in the 40s, with sustained winds in the 20s, and high around 34°. So it feels a lot colder out there! I'll see if tomorrow is much better, but I do want to get out there, briefly, to get ready for that snow, that is definitely not missing us! The little bit that came later yesterday has already melted, but I won't be that lucky with this.

Clear and in the 50's today with a good breeze. By Monday the high will be 60 with rain and wind as that big cold front rolls through. Tuesday and beyond the highs will be in the 40's, lows in the 20's. A good time to stay inside and inventory seed, start a couple more micros or something.

75° currently and breezy. Just worked up a sweat moving into the garage or covering the tropical plants as we have an expected freeze Monday morning of 30° and 28° Tuesday. Nothing unusual, just our normal “blue norther” blowing in this evening.

The tomato sprouts are outside enjoying one last day outdoors. The peppers and eggplant are waking up, just in time.

It's staying in the 20s to near 11 am, with the sustained winds still in the 20s, though gusts in the 30s now, instead of the 40s. Supposed to get to 35°, eventually. I'll find out tomorrow, how bad that is. Tomorrow is my trash day, but I can skip a week, no problem.

We have a winter storm warning for tonight through tomorrow night with predictions of 5-10" of snow, sleet and possibly freezing rain. Anything over just a few inches of snow is a pretty big deal around here and grinds everything to a halt for a few days. Temps are supposed to stay entirely below freezing for four days after the storm, so we'll be living with the snow and ice for awhile if it happens.

I had to pick up a prescription at Costco today, really bad timing. The parking lot was crazy like 1980's Christmas shopping at the mall, and the checkout lines were halfway back through the store, so I just got the prescription at the pharmacy and left without buying anything else. Tried stopping at Wegmans on the way home to pick up a few things for my mom, and I couldn't even get into the parking lot. This grocery store frenzy happens every time they predict snow around here. They even cover it on the TV news, same basic video every time of empty bread and milk shelves.

I covered up stuff outside, dragged stuff in the garage, and I have things scattered around the house.

Nearby Airport says it got to 32°. Porch thermometer said 34°. It’s pretty exposed to the north and a lot of wind is blowing so I got to think it is accurate.

Later on, I’ll see if the jalapeño pepper plants froze.

With all of those people making French toast, I don't understand why the maple syrup shelf never goes bare.

Turned out to be a significant snowstorm for the DC area overall (4-8", with another inch or two possible tonight). It's been enough to pretty much shut down both airports and all the schools, etc., but my neighborhood only got about 4" so I'm a little disappointed.

I'm not surprised that this turned out on the low end of the forecasts. Our heaviest snowfalls come from storms that move up the East Coast from the south, when we can get dumped on with 24+ inches in a single event. This storm just came straight across from the west, so not as much moisture in it. The weather forecasters already are talking about a potential huge snowstorm for us next week, so it's time to plan my strategic grocery run, in between the restocking of the shelves and the second descent of the hordes.

As of 11 am, a little over an inch of snow, so far, and probably another inch falling, at this rate. It's already up to 30°, but not getting much warmer. Fortunately, it's light snow, not the heavy, wet type.

I went out and shoveled the snow, and it wasn't as light and fluffy as they said it would be. Fortunately, I want on the deck, with the blower, to see if it worked, and since it didn't, I took the shovel out, along with the refilled calcium chloride. I also pushed the shovel down my neighbor's walk, since she's gone a few days. It was less than 2", so far, with little more coming - it's brightened up a little, actually, which is a good thing, as it should melt some of that stuff.

UD - Since it pretty much stopped snowing, and brightened up out there, I went back out and brushed all the snow off the car, so it won't turn to ice on it later.

The Dallas/Ft. Worth area expecting a snow and ice event midweek. Southlake, TX has 3-6 inches of snow in the forecast. The Austin area is on the edge and may get a little ice. We are supposed to get just a little rain, nothing frozen.

The car got dusted with that second, smaller storm, but it is already melted, from the sun, though it is still just below freezing. Still very windy, so I'm glad I didn't put my trash out last night - I wouldn't have wanted to be fetching those lids and cans in this weather! :o

It's sunny and 24F, on its way to 31F. Calling for 8F tonight. Brr. Looks like we got around 10" of snow, give or take. Didn't go outside yesterday, so I guess today is the day to push some snow around.

We got another round of snow in the evening yesterday, and I finally got my lazy self outside to shovel the walk and actually measure the snow around 10:00pm. 8.5" in my yard! Best snowfall we've had in several years. Sunny and beautiful but windy and cold out there today, so I'm admiring it from inside.

Did not freeze here in spite of the forecast of 28° and the actual reading of 28° at the airport 3-4 miles to the NNE away. My two jalapeño plants and bush green beans look completely untouched by frost or freezing temperatures. What happened in the 3-4 miles that prevented the freeze? I think it is the Live Oak/Yaupon holly forest providing insulation where the garden is located. Maybe the lake adds additional heat.
