Check out "Omaha Scanner" on Facebook. The forecast ice storm became a reality on cue around 5pm. Nothing was cancelled, including a big time volleyball tournment in Lincoln with both home teams qualifying. They are trying to treat the sports arena roads by reducing the amount of first responders sent out on rescue calls, which are numerous.

Very dangerous situation here tonight.

Ice storms are horrible.

No ice here except in the freezer. 78° for today, 80° tomorrow and 81° Monday. Looks like a cool down and more average temperatures towards next weekend. No Arctic Air here yet this winter.

Well, at least we don't have warm beer! The Arctic air has its benefits LOL No mosquitoes either.

The tied for the worst mosquitoes I’ve ever experienced was about 48° north latitude in Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. :o The other worst was about 10 miles from my home in a duck blind

26°F/-3.3°C and a dusting of snow? Still not enough to stow the flipflop and shorts attire to fetch the morning paper...

59° this morning, about 15° above long term average. 75° for the high, ten degrees above average. Tomorrow through the weekend, average temperatures, 60s during the day, 40s at night. No shot of rain except a brief window later today.

Highs in the 40's F are good for us, this time of year. Some heavy frosts and colder days have been clear and beautiful with sun. Nothing on the ground yet. Cloudy and damp today after an overnight rain, and maybe a heavier rain again on Saturday, with colder temperatures into the holidays but not likely more than a dusting of snow.

It's been warm here lately, and today it was just a degree above average (46°), but it starts dropping tomorrow, to low 40s, then low 30s, and hi 20s, Saturday and Sunday, and 16° for a low Sunday night (some forecasting 13°). This is why I harvested all those brassicas Tuesday, and today I covered my rosemary and sage plants, after trimming a bunch off of both (probably a 5 gal bucket, combined), for any friends that want some. The sage will come back from any temps, after trimming it to the ground, and the rosemary is a cold resistant variety, but I still figured I'd protect it anyway.

These will be better times to be running my oven, for those cookies!

Foggy start, 43° going to 69° with plenty of sun, pretty typical mid to late December pattern for these parts. The kind of weather that keeps most everything in the garden currently reasonably happy.

We got 4-5" of snow last night, which I blew this morning. Yesterday was distribution day at the pantry, and we were all joking about how the 28F weather was 40 warmer than it was last week! The garden is sleeping with a nice blanket of insulation and its first spring watering. I'm gardening indoors and happy in my new furnace LOL.

Flipflops stowed, and according to @rxkeith, this is a dusting:

Got another 2024 Avalon Classic coming in tonight. Starting with snow and ice pellets, then changing to rain, at times heavy rain into the morning and until midnight tomorrow, with a wind warning gusting 80 to 100 kph from S and SW.
I've been working in the woods on fair days this december, removing the many dead sticks that are standing. And what I'm finding, that these dead trees are super soaked from our rainy november, then frozen, then buffeted with heavy gusts, and quite a few are actually cracked right off near the ground. No need for cuttin those but watch out on a windy day, what looks like you have to cut it might just drop when you put a hand on it. Or worse, behind your back.
Seems that mother nature and I had the same idea about bringing those down to the ground...

if your feet are toughened up you shouldn't even need flip flops, gotch.
might give the neighbors sumthin to talk about though.
highs here are in the teens, lows are in the singles, partly sunny today.
chance of snow most days, but we have had a break the past few days.
warming trend starts monday, might get in the upper 30s by christmas.

I'm getting my first snow of the season - not setting on anything, except the car, and it will keep snowing lightly until just after 1 am. It's only going up to 35° tomorrow, and staying in the 20s Sunday, with Sunday night forecast to be in the teens.

38° this morning. Calm. Going to 59° today, which is a downward revision from previous forecasts. Both temperatures slightly below normal. Remaining sunny, next shot at any rain is for Tuesday.

Good weather for gardening, although, there hasn’t been a terrible amount to do. I took out all the remaining eggplant. Squirrels won that battle, but the war remains. I took out the two remaining Gatherer’s Gold pepper plants and the one remaining Sweet Bella bell pepper plant. They all had little peppers, but I didn’t like the odds and timing on getting the peppers to harvest.

Now I have a 6’x10’ blank slate, going to fill that in the days after Christmas as the weather forecast, temps, look conducive for germination for most vegetables. Mid 70s for highs work for many crops.

My familiarity with the length and composition of yer driveway would prevent me from ever navigating it without proper footwear...in ANY weather!

Anywho, done my share of traipsing out ~50'/15.24 meters, one way, on the giant ice cube which serves as our driveway to pick up the paper, the discomfort ratchets up considerably during the return trip.

And no neighbors to speak of when I head out ~ 05:30 a.m., 'cept an early Volunteer State transplant walker whose surprise greeting the other day in the predawn pitch blackness startled the shittake outta me.
