Still no rain but the best chance will be tomorrow and Saturday. But the cold front that came through has brought some delicious temps. Loving low 80's with nice cool breeze! Windows open at night for that nice fresh air. The forecast is for this weather to hang around for the next ten days.

Today is planting day for the first fall stuff. They'll enjoy the cloudy weather and hopefully some rain tomorrow.

Triple digits again! Still, I was in the garden most of the day yesterday because I'd been away from it the previous couple days and had a lot to pick. With all the extreme temps this summer, about 20 out of 60 tomato plants have set no fruit (yet...I hope).

We finally installed a drip irrigation system in the garden a couple weeks ago, so at least I don't have to attend to my daily watering assingments any longer.

@habitat-gardener would love to hear your review about the tomato plants that actually did or didn't set fruit, if there are trends by variety. Please post and let us know those trends in heat tolerance/intolerance in your grow.

Yesterday, while it wasn't very warm here - only got to 76° here, but the humidity was disgusting! It was around 78-79%, every time I'd check. After doing a bunch in the kitchen, I finally broke down and turned on the AC, and had to turn it down some, just to get the humidity out of the air. The temperature outside didn't go down a lot overnight, but today the humidity went down a little, and later, around 3 pm, a front came through, with only .05" of rain, but the temp came down to 65°, and later even lower, with only 60% humidity (usually this goes up, when the temp drops!). And eventually, it got below 60°, and it is supposed to get into the lower 50s later. And only 72° for a high tomorrow, with much lower humidity for a couple of days, before the AC will be needed again.

The season started with a drought and is ending with a drought.
I have to ration the saved rainwater for potted plants only.

Well, the weekend rain total was 0.1". Certainly not a drought breaker but between pouring more water into the bean row and the overnight drizzle, the soil finally got wet enough to stick in the bean seed.

No rain in the forecast until a 40% chance next Thursday. Dances With Hoses will continue her watering work.

It got down to 53° at some point last night, and is just getting to 65°, close to noon. Humidity is WAY down this morning - humidity 40%, last time I looked, and no clouds at all. No rain forecast in the entire 10 day, and it's getting much warmer after today.

Nothing for it but to spend a couple of hours cleaning beds and weeding in the 80+ degree drizzle.

Humid and drizzly and warm here today too, although it didn't hit 80F until the drizzle stopped and the sun came out.
It's been summer warm all week, in the 80's by my door, low 90's in the greenhouse with little wind. Only difference is the nights have been cooler, into the 50's and a couple of clear nights dropped well below that but didn't freeze, just the heaviest kind of dew.

Nominally, the normal highs would be in the 60's and lows dipping into the 40's. We might see normals by the end of next week.

I’ll start a new thread for that discussion. But in general, I think timing was the most important factor. I planted almost all tomatoes late.

Briefly: The three I bought as seedlings and transferred to gallon pots before planting all are continuing to do well. Of the ones I grew from seed, Benevento F1 has been bulletproof! Lots of big tomatoes.

By golly @habitat-gardener I did the same thing, started a month late and it made a huge difference, that the most stressful weather (July) wasn't also 'ripening my fruit' time with the stress that puts on the plants. Looking forward to your thread!

68°, 20°C this morning. Got up to 85° for high yesterday with lots of sunshine. Dewpoint 60°.

Likely to have Francine, the next tropical storm, churning out in the GOM soon and the models indicate a Louisiana landfall Wednesday-Thursday.

Hot, hot hot here in northern CA! The temperature should reach 100 degrees again today,! Bugs are eating everything green. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found a skeletonized marigold plant. Every bit of leaf eaten by a caterpillar. Luckily, I found and squished the critter
Clouds of whiteflies swarming around the plants. I have tried several treatments which failed. Now, spider mites are appearing for another round.
There are so many comments online about the weather this year and the invasion of bugs. A lot of gardeners are giving up the battle, hoping colder temperatures kill the bug invasion.

I picked a handful of caterpillars off my radishes today too @Tallylassie , couldn't believe how quickly they turned a beautiful row into a mess of skeleton leaves and poop! Cabbage butterfly got under the row cover, what can you do... it's windy.
I hope you have better luck when cooler weather comes.

Also hoping to hear the Francine is not another monster like Beryl. A lot of rain forecast for Lafayette, at this point. Hoping all goes well for @Rajun Gardener .
