As of yesterday, the 2024 Jardín del Gotch is fully planted...except for the Waltham Butternut Squarsh...for two (2) reasons:

1) BIL needing to finish painting behind the Squarsh Trellis come Wednesday, and
2) The divine @MissS striking the Fear of SVB with early planting.

With the Gotch beating that drum over and over I had no choice but to order a packet of seeds. Will be planting those when I get home tomorrow. They’ll be ripe in time for the second annual BLT Party and Tomato tasting, I’m sure they won’t disappoint!

With the Waltham Butternut Squarsh in, Jardín del Gotch is fully planted as of 05/29.

It gets better, Lettuce Leaf Basil is thriving:

Emerald Towers (and Thai Towers) basil seem like huge improvements on regular basil - bigger leaves, taller and bushier, and slower to bolt.

Oddly enough, putting them in containers has been the real game changer!

In a dry, (usually) dark basement, stored upright on a 29"/73.66cm table.

Why on the butts? Less surface area contact seems logical...to me, leastways.

Well done and lucky you! I love butternuts but they just don't grow well here. Too many SVBs. And if a plant does survive there might be one squash on it. Not a good return for all the square footage it takes up, even the bush types. Enjoy your bountiful harvest. That zoodled squash recipe sounds wonderful!
