I started getting seed catalogs at the end of November and into December, and still getting some now, I placed my first order of the year last week

I did receive the fancy, expensive Baker Creek coffee table type "catalogue" at last. Yikes. I see that they don't have as many exotic winter squash seeds anymore like they used to in the past. I don't understand why they sell some varieties (of anything) for only a short period, then delete them.

If it doesn't sell enough, and make them enough profit, it gets discontinued. I may still have the original first edition Baker Creek "big book". Compared to the recent ones, there were many more varieties listed. The new ones concentrate more on stories and pictures.
On a side note, I just sent out the single copy of the Tomato Junction (the EBTKS swap) catalog, no pages, all seeds, still good reading.

I may still have the original first edition Baker Creek "big book". Compared to the recent ones, there were many more varieties listed. The new ones concentrate more on stories and pictures.

That original Baker Creek big book that you have - what year was that published? I have the one from 2018. Better squashes there than the latest one. I don't see why low sales of a variety should matter, if they grow their own seed, or even if they buy from other growers. All they have to do is grow fewer plants of those varieties, or order less from outside growers. That they dumped Jaspee "Melonette" is criminal. There is no sweeter winter squash to be had, and I've tried them all, or at least many of them. And trouble-free, at least for me.
