Ah, HA @rajungardener using the red Post Reply button after typing a test post brought me to a blank screen that looked just like the one I get with using the Full Editor and Preview button.

Obviously there is a difference between the Submit button and the Post Reply button.

Don't know why the @rajungardener tag didn't work. I think that I spelled it right.

Yes, Submit and Post Reply are two different things. Maybe that explains it!!!

The tag system is set to one character, you start by adding @ and the first letter of a name, wait a second and a popup should appear with all the names starting with that letter. To narrow it down enter the 2nd letter.

Rajun Gardener I see. That worked.

Is there a way NOT to show the @ symbol in the post? Most forums just show the name.

Since I am asking for items that I would like...

I LOVE having the New Posts button at the top of the screen.

After I finish reading everything that interests me, I like to Mark Forums Read but I need to go back to the Board Index screen to do that. Any chance of having that button at the top of the page too?

Let's try this brownrexx

Testing the mention system without the @ displayed MissS RadRob

Edited: I tried to remove the @ but it doesn't work without it.

I can't add that without making changes to the whole board and adding new software, that will change the look of the screen.

Is the Post Reply button redundant? It's confusing.

Post Reply brings up the full editor while Submit will submit your post in the quick reply window. If you type a post in the quick reply window and hit Post Reply, your post will be lost so always use the Submit button.

Just remember any time you click a red button, it does something different than what you're currently doing. Does that make sense?

That's useful to know.

Just a note, but I never use the Post Reply button. I always use the Submit or Full Editor buttons. The Submit button most of the time, and the full editor when I am making a long post and want to proofread it because you can see and read the entire post at once and easily make changes. I haven't had much time to see if things are different, but just note that I am paying attention to what I am doing because I have been highlighting and copying all except my shortest posts so I don't have to retype them if I lose something. So I am not just absent mindingly hitting a button and not looking what I am doing. That certainly could have happened a time or two when the problem first starting happening, but I think it is much less likely at this point. I will watch out for that even more though and let you know if I catch myself doing it at some point.

I have "lost" one which is there but not there. On the Beans, etc, I posted "Bean Poles". According to my profile and checking recent posts, it is there. But, it's not there when I look in Beans. At one point there were 35 views so it must be someplace.

So many subforums get confusing.

He put it in the general discussion of the legumes catagory and probably clicked the beans sub forum. If he clicked the main catagory it would be there to see.

I can cut them down if everyone wants it that way.

Yeah, navigation through this forum is a bit tricky. Some things don't make sense but then I come from an era of crank telephones and penny postcards. Takes some adjustment!

Just remember, every catagory has a general forum under all the other sub forums! :?

Too many sub forums in my opinion. There are even sub forums for growth habit such as bush and pole. Tomatoes are not divided into determinate or indeterminate so I don't know why beans would be divided this way.

It's what was asked for, I didn't start making them till people were asking and you're right. I don't know why Det/Indet hasn't been brought up.

Maybe not a bad idea to consider backing off a bit on the subforums? Maybe combine the two for the beans and NOT add determinate and indeterminate to the Tomatoes? I mean where would you talk about the semi determinates? What if you want to ask about one and don't know which it is? I hope the subcatagories stay simple enough to make this forum easy to use for beginning tomato gardeners as well as experienced ones. The more there are, the bigger the chance someone will post in the wrong one, leading to comments about posts being in the wrong places that have to be moved, and could result in feelings hurt if someone just picks the wrong one, not to mention more work for the Mods. Since I rarely use the subforums at all, might I ask what people that like them so much use them for? I only use them when starting a post so I know where to put it, otherwise I just use the new posts button anyway. Maybe there is a balance between every subforum anyone asks for, and what is really the most useful for the majority of people.

I do the same thing.

It's impossible to please all of the people all of the time.

It is just my opinion that we don't need to be as precise with all of the sub forums and I am definitely NOT suggesting more sub forums for tomatoes like determinate, indeterminate, red, pink, yellow, black, etc, etc. It can become overwhelming. In general this site is pretty close to perfect and it does not need to make a lot of changes.

I just want the novice with their first tomato plant looking for help to feel as welcome here as the most experienced gardeners and professionals. To me, one of the happiest posts is the one from the person excited to grow their first tomato, who came to the internet to try to find out what to do with it and found us. It is the main reason I have been raising 75-100 plants and walking into the hospital wheeling my radio flyer wagon full of plants each year for anyone who wants them. People have come back to me, so excited that they got thier first tomato that they grew themselves, so happy, and so proud. I love that. I want to encourage that.
