I once had a cat who would run to hide under our large family dog when we walked out across a field. She used him for protection and he happily sheltered her from the open sky.

No-see-um is not a mosquito but equally awful. A biting midge.

[mention]Growing Coastal[/mention] midge, mosquito, I never get to see them but feel their presence unless I get lucky and splat see the smudge of my own blood. We live 100 yards from a wet meadow so get lots, but we also get to see the bats come to gobble them up too.

I see mosquitoes, especially when they're in the house. Our mountain mosquitoes are built like helicopters. Fortunately our no-see-ums are only in the woods.
