Another site to purchase giant seed. While it looks expensive, it's not that bad compared to what I won at the auction for us last year. That seed was expensive, hence, the one seed per person per selection of competition tomatoes.

Thank you kindly dear sir. I will add them to the Giant Seed Library so that others can grow them. This is great beacause I will have more than 3-4 seeds of a giant so people can have more than one little seed to grow plants from.

Another source for giant tomato seeds: https://pumpkinrick.com/shop/

My seed offer here in January is still your best bet. These seeds are not cheap and I have already purchased some from many of the heavy hitters. Last year I could only afford to give out 3 seeds to each person and only 1 of each tomato. This year I have grown some of those out and saved seeds so I will be able to offer you more seeds for your grow out. Hopefully some of you will be sending me some seeds back from your grow out so that we can offer them to others that wish to participate with these beauties.

@BlackKrim They don't taste bad at all. In fact they are pretty good. My Domingo tasted better than a couple of their smaller cousins that I grew this year. Big Zac is supposedly the best of the top 3 competition varieties. There are many other big ones in my offer that are very very good tomatoes regardless of size. Of course there are a few that just have no flavor at all. Just as in the general tomato population, the flavor is all over the board.

I can't recall the exact weight, more than a pound I think, but years ago I grew Hillbilly bi-colour tom. and boy, were they tasty. I guess the ones you folks have named are way larger.

A funny thing happened. I didn't have a scale so I took my one large Hillbilly tom to the supermarket to weigh it in the vegetable department. I was so proud of that monster. As I opened my paper bag and took it out, a woman standing nearby said, "Hey, that looks like a Hillbilly and I'll bet you are bringing it here to weigh it."

As I live and breathe. Could I make this up.

Thanx for your responses.

I allowed my plants to produce multiple fruit to produce seed to share. These are just a sample. The competition seed produced very large fruits and I am glad that I spent a bit to get these seeds. The sad thing was that I did not have a single fused blossom this year. These, and others, produced seed that I will be offering this next year. They tasted pretty good too. One tomato fills the pot.

bigpumpkins.com has posted their auction schedule. In addition to giant pumpkins, they offer giant tomatoes, gourds, sunflowers, corn and more. The auctions were fun last year but do be prepared to pay more than you ever thought that you would for a seed.

@rdback Here you can purchase seeds of the giants without creating an account. The are still pricey. The cheapest way to get a hold on some of these seeds is to wait for me to put up my seed offer in January. Of course since the seed is so pricey, I only will give out one seed of the purchased competition tomatoes per person. This year I did grow some out and will be able to offer each person 5 seeds from those. They still have the same gene pool but were not pruned to produce one big giant fruit.

You will be getting ~200 of Young Strickler's seed from yers truly. A darn fine Tomato, which makes up for its lack of...um...curb appeal (face it, it ain't gonna win no Beauty Contests!), with size, yield, meatiness, flavor, and longevity. viewtopic.php?p=134988#p134988
