It's a catch-22;I use a heavy mulch, which is a breeding ground for rats/mice that chew the stems and tomatoes.
I can't use neighbors' clippings,they all use lawn people and harsh chemicals on their lawns.
I lost my 1st tomato to mice this weekend,it was a cherokee carbon on a plant that is cashing in it's chips.

they also say the original has a strange taste/smell.
Maybe once they turn red I can scratch and sniff before picking.

speaking of rats/mice;I planted 60 cucumber plants and I am down to 6 still alive.

the harz are taking the heat/drought very well.
I did cover them with white mesh today(netting they put over baby carriages to keep mosquitoes out) to prevent any possible sunscald or vermin nibbles.
