What pepper varieties are you growing for 2020

Some fabulous lists there folks. If only we had easy access to some of those Bell peppers and low to mild heat chilies (rest of family do not like chili heat), not really into the super hots myself either. Ah well, another vegetable seed list to drool over

Ajvarski
Elephant Ear
Kapia Paprika

These three are very similar, with (Kurtrovska) Kapia being an ancestor of the larger and meatier Elephant's Ear, with Ajvarski just a generic name for this type of pepper used for ajvar. All three are from the same region, the first being from North Macedonia, the second from Serbia, and the third from Bulgaria (not Hungary, as some claim). Elephant's Ear is also known commercially as Palanačko čudo (Miracle of Palanka), named after my town, as there is a vegetable institute here.

The major distinction of Kurtovska Kapia is that it is a bit thinner, so easier to dry. It is used dried for stuffing.

The list isn't very exotic or long but will suit the need for fresh eating, freezing, hot sauce and maybe some dehydrating. We don't eat a lot of fresh peppers so they're mostly used in cooking.

Just put in an order with Midwest Chileheads for the jalapeños and habaneros. The hybrids are from another vendor and the remainder are either old seeds or saved seeds. So what I end up with is really determinate on what I can germinate. I'll be paying close attention to the "starting old seed" threads as well. I generally like to have about 25-30 jalapeños, 12-15 habaneros, 12-15 chile types and at least 12-18 bells and sweet peppers. I am still a couple of months from starting most of these, although I will probably start earlier with the habaneros.

Trying lots of new ones this year. Bells don't do well for me here. I eat all the sweet peppers raw; the hot ones raw and cooked. Not especially happy with the Palanacko Cudo which seems different from what I first grew years ago and then lost the seed. Love Cornito Giallo but Cornito Giallo was a stinkbug magnet and not nearly as prolific or sweet. Jaluv an Attitude had thicker skins than I like for eating fresh and not quite hot enough for cooking.

I can get the seeds of Palanačko Čudo from the original producer, it's here in my town (see the link bellow). It's a commercial name for a line of Elephant's Ear. Where are you from?

I live in Pennsylvania, USA. Believe it or not, I was able to buy seeds from that very place, lol! Terrible germination but I did get plants- maybe the mail wasn't kind to the seed. Marko from T'ville was the source of the original seed that many of us received, and he said his source was a farmer in Croatia who had been saving his own seed for many years.

I haven't made a list yet but I know Aleppo will be on it. I need to get busy sorting seeds and making a list.

I like your list. I was part of a seed train, so added a few more varieties. One being Aji Guyana, which was the first to germinate. I also have a Numex Suave Orange that has germinated.

Now on your Aji Dulce varieties. Do you think Aji Dulce #1 taste better than the Aji Dulce from Peru?

Now on your Aji Dulce varieties. Do you think Aji Dulce #1 taste better than the Aji Dulce from Peru?

I think the one that I have been growing these last few years is Aji Dulce #2, from Tradewinds.It just looks like a smallish, red habanero, and has incredible flavor, yet almost no heat! That #1 I think is that flatter variety I grew years ago, that didn't have as much flavor, and it was much later - the worst downfall. Same thing with that Numex Suave Orange - very late, and not as flavorful as aji dulce.

Here's an example of the harvest I got from just one plant, at the end of the season (otherwise I don't harvest green, or under-ripe ones, unless I knock them off by accident!). Only about 500 SUs, if that, so great for those who want to experience the habanero flavor, but can't take the heat.

@AZGardener - Besides being just plain purty Bill's Striped is right tasty too and has done well here in Kansas. Ljubov Dlan is one of my all time favorites for size and flavor. Largo De Reus is a first timer here - have you grown it before?

All 3 are new to the garden this year. I'm looking forward to growing them. Thank you for the input on Ljubov Dlan and Bill's Striped. I'll report how they grow for me here in the hot southwest USA.
