It was some time ago that I heard on the news New Jersey was trying to ban Sunnyside up runny yolk eggs in the restaurants.
It was years ago and people were ticked.
No idea how it turned out.

I remember that time, when they had tried banning sunny side up eggs in Jersey, due to the salmonella! Some diners would still make, per request, but you would have to sign a waiver, accepting all liability for eating the eggs, and releasing the restaurant from any liability from serving the eggs, as it was the customer's choice.

There's probably a copy online somewhere of this pretty standard form, that a lot of the places used; though it probably wasn't anything legal, a bunch of those breakfast diners had it, for those that still wanted their SSU eggs!

At risk of getting political... the 2ish cubic feet bales of promix (Canadian) peat moss have gone up $2 since last week.

Nothing political about that.

I think it was last year (maybe year before?) that Canada decided to limit peat harvesting to extend the life of the peat beds. That would definitely increase the price to anyone, including their citizens too.

I’m anti-sphagnum peat, but it isn’t political. I don’t like it much in a garden and especially not to start seeds or plants in. It’s very hydrophobic and acidic to boot. I’m not clear why sphagnum peat is so widely used, I think it is an inferior product.

I got a bale of peat at Lowe's yesterday, for $21.95, and I was surprised that they hadn't raised the price already, due to the tariffs starting today (even though the peat already here, shouldn't be affected).
They didn't have the 2 cu ft bags of perlite yet, so I'll have to wait a while. Funny thing is, Lowe's and HD haven't even opened their lawn & garden sections up yet! And I remember when New Jersey's nickname was The Garden State. Am I the only one around here thinking about it this early???

Blatant robbery.
HEB has white onions for $1.39 a pound.
The MI Casa Mexican ( My House) store I drive by every day has them for 59 cents a pound on special.
I picked up a big bag of them
I think jalapenos were around the same price and giant Roma tomatoes were 69 cents a pound.
Naturally I was the only gringo in the place and everyone was really friendly.
It's a largely Hispanic neighborhood.
Parking was excellent too.
How is HEB getting away with these ridiculous prices?

I went to the garden section of Home Depot today. They have section of pepper transplants for $2.99 each. I got one Better Belle 4 hybrid pepper. Their transplants looked good. Last year, they had the same section of transplants for $2.99/plant. Glad the price was the same. I have 25 pepper plants now in the beds, three are store bought transplants, all hybrid bells. Three dollars per plant is about my limit.

2 lb bags of onions mysteriously doubled in price a couple of weeks ago from 2.50 up to $5.
They had ten pound bags for $13.50 so I bought one of them instead.

3 pounds of bagged medium yellow onions here are $2.95 at Aldi, $3.10 at HEB. Onions usually aren’t very pricey here. Texas grows a lot of onions.

I wish my Mexican market was as large as Su Casa! Still, I consider myself lucky, to have a market right here in town, since I used to have to drive over to Avondale, PA, to stock up on Mexican, back in the 90s.

The smaller onion bags here don't have a label of origin, just a price code for scanning. The big bags, they had two kinds. One from Atlantic Canada, could be PEI, NS or NB but almost certainly not us. Long day onions are tricky to grow here because our spring is so late. The growing season is barely begun before you hit the longest day, and then they will start to bulb no matter how big they got up to that point. So I don't think we have any serious onion growing on the island other than a few odds and ends by smaller farms that grow mixed vegetables. The other bag was from Quebec - notably much bigger onions in the bag. I bought the Atlantic because the smaller onions are more versatile for me, I hate to cut an onion and not use it all at once.

This is true about onions, smalls and mediums are good to have. I’m somewhat haphazard about my onion cultivation by design. I sling on some fish emulsion from time to time, but not in any way trying for even coverage. I vary the spacing between onions a bit, all done in service to have a variety of sizes of bulbs.

Jumbos and larges are showy and nice for onion rings, but otherwise a waste in most cases as they are the worst to keep long and too much for most 2 people recipes. The small onions keep better and are often all that’s needed. This year’s crop in my garden is looking good and widely varied in size. I believe I’ll have a few jumbo/extra large ones for the rings, plus lots of mediums and smalls, just about perfect.

If I don't use a whole onion today I will eat the other half tomorrow.

I stopped by Tractor Supply yesterday for something and saw their Bonnie Plants display outside. Of course, I had to see what was there and it was quite a shock. 4-packs of cabbage plants for $5.99! I had to look twice to make sure it was only four plants and not six. Boy, am I RICH with all the homegrown packs of veg I have going!

Cabbage has to be one of the easiest seeds to sprout.
